General The Aunt Sally World Championships.

I grew up in a cottage next to The Bell in Hampton Poyle, and remember the thump of the sticks and cheering. I loved the sounds and had a go when I got the chance.

Our village cricket club is re-introducing aunt sally this coming summer.

There has been loads of interest and it’s hoped that we’ll get two teams together.

There isn’t many better ways to spend a summers evening outside of the football season with a pint or two and the warmth of a summer night.

I play skittles in Wallingford at the ABM Club, which we have both summer and winter leagues, but would love to get an Aunt Sally team going in Wallingford

There was one of those clickbait Athletic questions a few weeks ago of what is the hardest sporting achievement?
Snooker : 147
Darts : 9 darter
Cricket : 6 sixes in an over
Golf : hole in one

I answered 18 dolls in Aunt Sally. They ignored me or just didn't understand.

Well out of that list it will be 6 sixes in an over, all the others happen fairly regularly.

Good job on getting Aunt Sally mentioned though.

If you get all 9 pins over with one ball in Skittles it is called a 'flopper' happens a few times a year at the club. This might be doing it

Nah, it has happened over 200 times, whereas in international and domestic cricket 6 sixes has only happened 15 times. Much harder to do.

You could fluke it though, swing and hope, whereas you couldn’t fluke a 147.

I suppose the big difference is a person can train themselves for the golf, darts and snooker ones and no one else is really involved so they are individual feats of skill, whereas the cricket involves the direct involvement of a bowler and fielders, not certain it should be on the list with the other 3.

Yeah I agree with this, usually when the question is asked cricket isn't included.

Anyway as said above some of these require **** opposition. The cricket ones. Or if we said goals scored by one player in a pro football match.
I’m still convinced Brannagan should have been invited to the Ballon d’or and SPOTY for his four penalties vs Gillingham.

The American sports I don’t understand so they don’t count.

Anyway there have only been 22 perfect aunt Sally games in recorded history.

Used to play for the Red Lion in Yarnton back in the 80’s, got hammered every week but it was a good laugh and p**s up!

Some excellent exposure for the great sport on the last episode of the current Clarkson's Farm series.

I can't say I've ever played it and I've never been much of a pub-goer but my dad was in a pub team back in the day and I have fond memories of it all!
their team used to win trophies every now and then from the pub tournaments and he would cheat at the coin toss and use a double sided coin, but you didn't hear that from me ;)

The Aunt Sally world recently lost one of its icons earlier this year. I played golf against Barrington on a number of occasions, he spent most of the time trying to look for golf balls in the rough (not his, he just wanted to add to his collection!)
