2nd Test The Ashes - England v Australia @ Lords

Yes mainly Aussie and Indian fans on Twitter calling for him to be banned. Strange considering Pat Cummins bowled 11 shorts at Jofra Archer the day before.
Banned for what reason?

heres hoping the (remaining) England batsman can bat for a while , & score some runs

Rumours abounding ...albeit officially unconfirmed yet.... that Smith is ruled out of todays play with concussion

which if confirmed as correct could rule Smith out of the 3rd Ashes test ?

down to Stokes and Buttler to deliver some runs ...& to not give their wickets away!

At the end of the day its Smith's fault for not wearing the protective gear provided. If you know you have the possibility of coming up against someone who bowls 90mph+ short balls surely you'd be a bit more cautious and wear the neck protection.

Smith also misjudged the height on both bouncers that hit him and ducked into them.

Just confirmed Smith is out of the game, new concussion rule means they can bring a player in to this game who can bat.

Interestingly sounds like he is doubt for the 3rd test..

Smith not on the field. Dizziness. Sounds like concussion. Out of 3rd test?

statement ....

Full statement - Smith ruled out of rest of Test
Cricket Australia statement in full: "Steve Smith has been closely monitored by medical staff overnight. He slept well but woke up with a bit of a headache and feeling of grogginess. He reported his left arm is much better.
"As part of the Cricket Australia concussion protocol, repeat testing was performed this morning and demonstrated some deterioration, which is consistent with the emergence of the symptoms he was reporting.
"On that basis, he has been withdrawn from the match. The Australian team will lodge an application for the concussion substitute with the match referee.
"In terms of his availability for the next Test, it will be considered over the coming days but the short turnaround is not in his favour. He will be assessed on an ongoing basis and will have a precautionary scan on his neck on Sunday.
"Cricket Australia statistics show that 30 per cent of concussions in Australian cricket are delayed. It is not uncommon for players to pass their tests and feel well on the day of an injury and then display symptoms 24 - 48 hours later."

Replacement already on the field.
Marnus Labuschagne. Can play a FULL part in the game.

Smith should never have batted again yesterday - the blows he took were not the common or garden ones. The Aussies need to reassess their concussion protocol because players will lie and hide the symptoms. It's better to be safe, than sorry and I think they got it wrong, or erred due to the game situation.

I think perhaps the Aussies had a shock yesterday re the ban comments. They've got used to bullying other teams with their quicks, but not really had someone do it back to them so viciously. You could see them be a little more tentative when targetted by the short stuff once Smith had got hit. The irony being they roughed up Archer with 11 short balls from 12, so have themselves to blame!

Good sensible batting by Buttler and Stokes so far.

Agree, they've batted time well, bit of luck too, but looked calm and in control. Just need Buttler to convert it something more than a nice 30

If (and it's a big if!) England are going to try and get an unlikely victory then they'll need at least 50 overs to bowl with you'd imagine, which gives us about another 20 to bat. So if these two can accelerate and get us up to a lead of 250 (that's five an over), there might be a chance...

I honestly think without Smith a lead of 200-220 would be enough.

It might be - but England certainly cannot afford to lose this game. I'd guess they would err on the side of caution.
