At the end of the day, it comes down to common sense and surely expecting a different matchsay experience. There are all sorts of fans at the home games, from corporate, executive boxes, family stand, south upper, lower, east stand etc. They all choose different areas because they want different things from a match day to others.
At an away game, more often than not, every single one of those fans will be herded into the same stand. Surely, by attending the away match, you've got to anticipate the scenario that you'll be placed next to someone very different to you, who's match day is probably very different to yours, and you may not wish to associate yourself with outside of football. But that's football, we're all fans of the same club whether you like each other or not.
Personally I think that's can make away games either so fantastic or frustrating in equal measure. But you've surely got to anticipate and expect it upon buying a ticket and commiting.
