Chairman Takeover now Old Car Chat

After the Marina, sometime around 1990, I had an MG Maestro. It could shift, and I really liked that car... unfortunately, so did the boys on the Leys and it got stolen three times for a gentle drive around the estate. I eventually sold it, and it got nicked again from the new owner and burnt out!

I had an Audi 100. It had had a superb botch job after the middle silencer had rusted through and was replaced with a random length of exhaust. The plan was to scrap it at MOT time.

As the MOT became due a friend of a friend acquired a similar non-runner. After a bit of a chat I said he could have it when the MOT came up. FOC, I'd just need a lift home. His plan was to build a working car from the two.

The day came, and, despite my protestations, he gave me 8 cans of Kronenbourg as a thank you.

The next morning I woke having drunk 7 of 8 cans, realising that I had effectively swapped a car for a can of lager. Friend of friend woke to find the [my old] car had been stolen from his drive.

There are only losers in this story.

First car was a 1963 mini cost me £95 , bought when I was 17, gave me such freedom to travel the country following the yellows

The Maestro was superb for cornering as it stuck to the road, basically a box with wheels. The 1.3 was crap at pretty much everything else though and didn't have a 5th gear.

It was good for driving in London though as every panel had been keyed or somebody had put a dent in it so people kept a wide berth, especially brand new Lambos when a 2 lane road went into a 1 lane roundabout.

As a kid i used to watch the banger racing at Standlake, would of been late 70's. Went every week.
Brilliant Sunday afternoons. Standlake was great you had some great rivals teams when I went. Pirates, Saints.

I also did Northampton and Farringdon as a kid, and driving was great at 15.

There’s a great you tube clip of Jeremy Clarkson with a Marina, and Allegro. Both dire cars, I preferred the Princess 😂

Luckily I missed out on marina‘s and Allegros, windmill gave me his mk1 escort sport. 👍

First car Anglia 105e in 65. (Two tone Maroon and Grey). nothing but trouble. Got rid and replaced with Mark 1 Midget, Great car but no heater (they were extra cost). About three years old and 2k on the clock. late middle aged guy had a mid life crisis and had bought it new on a whim. His wife had issues getting in and out and hated it.
Had it for 7 months then got rear ended by a fully laden Double Decker bus on Abingdon road roundabout.

or why not move all the car and nostalgia posts from the original and put in a "lounge" section in miscellaneous?
There are some posts in this thread with shareholdings etc that are useful.
There are, unfortunately I don't have access to the tools to move posts, that would have been the best way to do it admittedly. @eaststandboy, are there some permissions I need to be able to move the posts to a new thread? Drop me a DM if you want this done (and I can do it 😂)

Fiat Panda VIP (2 tone brown) as my first car, button for a steering wheel, smokers window at the front and I never knew where it would be at the end of the day as it was so light 4 mates could lift it move it!

They want our season ticket money but we don’t know what team we’ll have or who will own us, talk about back to front

My first car was a Triumph Vitesse, perfect number plate for a 17 year old, OPP 69D. The brake cylinder was leaking therefore I had to pump the brakes several times to clear the air before they worked. Drove it like that for 3 months and strangely didn’t seem to worry me, guess I didn’t use them that much driving like James Hunt!
