Chairman Takeover now Old Car Chat

My first car (PBW 215M) was a Marina Coupe 1.8TC......... although it was originally a 1.3 I got a Gold Seal replacement engine and spent a long weekend fitting it.
i remember the long summer drives to cornwall sitting on the plastic seats and getting get stuck to when you sweated

I loved my Morris Marina, "Mikey". He was orange, brown plastic seats that burnt your ass in the summer, and really wonky gear stick!!.

I say wonky gear stick, it was a smooth gear change but the shaft was so long if felt like your arm was flapping around all over the place. @RyanioBirdio , no lewd comments please :D

Are you sure it wasn't the Princess that replaced the Ital/Marina?
Man....now you've got me googling the Austin Montego. Wiki tells me that it went:

Marina - Ital - Montego, and separately....
Princess - Ambassador - Montego (yes Montego replaced both lines!)

Ital and Ambassador were stop gaps (re-hashed Marina and Princess) because the Montego design phase was so far behind schedule and took 7 years to make it to production....largely due to industrial disputes and lack of funds.

And the last ever Montego off the production line (at Cowley) now lives at the Motor Museum in Gaydon:cry:

think it was standard material back then. we had Hillman imp, marina and maxi, and all had sweaty seats
Yep - we had a Hillman Avenger and then a Cortina MkIII, both with lovely vinyl seats - horrible for sitting on but handy for clearing up all that sick from the travel sickness someone inevitably got from such a terrible ride :ROFLMAO:

After that it was a Cortina MkIV and cloth seats all the way, baby!

Not only the seats getting hot enough to cause third-degree burns............. what about the steering wheel?
Can remember coming back from Farmoor one Summer driving with my knees, no mean feat in a car with the steering leverage of a bus, because the top of the wheel was too hot to handle & I had to get home. :ROFLMAO:

Halcyon days.......

Had a Ford Escort (FVW 42Y) after that, then an MG Metro, Rover 216 Gti, and then into the world of Suzuki 4x4`s. :)

"Get ready for a big week" They said
" It's going to be a busy week, get ready to tick them all off" They said
"A number of communications coordinated throughout the week" They said

I was expected to be excited and discussing our extremely bright future with our new owners with concrete plans for a stadium..... Instead we're discussing the pros n cons of a *@#£#& Montego over the earlier Marina.

Can't say I don't feel a bit DISAPPOINTED!!!
🥱
