Couldn’t make the game yesterday but just wondered what peoples opinions were on our players yesterday

Mitchell 5/6 - Weird one. Didn’t have a save to make, couldn’t have done anything about the goal IMO. Having said that his distribution isn’t great and doesn’t fill me with the confidence that’s Eastwood does.

Ruffels 6 - Solid. Did his job pretty well without being brilliant. Should have done a lot better with a free header first half.

Mousinho 7 - Played very well. Proper leader, should be captain for me. Side us looked much more solid since he’s come back in. Sure

Nelson 7 - Another who did well. Looks to have forged an understanding with Mous. Played some nice passes and carried the ball out well a few times. Wyke was a handful when he came on but, I thought they did well between them.

Norman 7 - Been a revelation since coming into the side. Constant threat going forward and did well defensively.

Brannagan 7 - Quite first half. Grew into the game later on. Had a couple of decent shots and played some nice long range passes.

Baptiste 9 MOM - Not sure what I can add that’s not already been said on here. Looks like we have a serious player on our hands. Absolutely dominated Cattermole and Power for the first 20. Didn’t let up for the rest of the game.

Browne 8 - Looked a constant threat when he got on the ball. Quicker and more powerful than I first thought. Good set piece delivery as well. Never seen anyone get kicked up in the air so many times in a game.

Holmes 8 - Showed his quality and experience. Looked dangerous every time he got the ball. Quality free kick and came close just before. Ran out of puff towards the end. More still to come me thinks.

Henry 7 - Decent game from him with tour being at his best. A few tidy passes and touches. Didn’t influence the game as much as usual.

Mackie 6 - Worked hard but never looked a goal threat. Much improved down the middle. Still looks a bit leggy to me. Would like to see his offside goal from another angle.

SUB

Whyte 5 - Never really got into the game. Didn’t have the impact that KR would have hoped.

Obika N/A - Didn’t really have a chance to do anything. I would have probably brought on Smith instead.

I'm just finishing watching the full replay now on iFollow:

Mitchell - Poor distribution again. Wasn't called into action much. Unable to do anything about the goal. 5
Norman
- Took Maguire out of the game. No ones mentioned it, but all of Mags' fouls were chopping down Norman. I think Cameron got in his head early on. Was heavily involved in our play on the right wing, as we've come to expect. 7
Nelson
- Much more composed, looks to be forming a partnership with Mous. Should have had at least one goal to his name. Seems to love to get forward, but struggles to get back in position, as was the case for the Sunderland goal. 6
Mousinho
- From being a scapegoat last season, he's now a key member of our defence, and dictates everything around him. In my mind a better shout for captain than Nelson. 7
Ruffels
- Still not a natural left back, stood off too much for their goal. Wasn't a bad performance overall though, he's able cover. 6
Baptiste
- Superb performance, both going forward and defensively. Covered every blade of grass, took on a lot of responsibility for his age. Give this kid a 4-year deal ASAP. 8
Brannagan
- Covered well defensively, had a few really good forward passes. Would hope to see him going forward more when Hanson is back alongside him. 7
Browne
- Drives forward really well. I wasn't particularly a fan of his rolling around after a couple of the tamer fouls, but seeing as he had plenty of lumps kicked out of him at other points, I guess it's fair enough. 8
Henry
- A big part of our improving performances, he links the front 3 really well. 7
Holmes
- Good to have a free kick specialist on our books again. Heavily involved with our play in the final third. 8
Mackie
- Full of running up front, going through the middle definitely seems to suit him more at this stage of his career. 7

Whyte - A lot of energy and pace, with no great application of it. Still a raw talent that needs harnessing.
Obika - Probably not the right impact sub to come on up front. N/A

A little harsh on Henry who I think is great and just makes things tick.
One of Ruffle’s better games; I worry about his positioning still.
Norman growing in confidence: very promising.
Browne was fouled a disgracefulnumber of times - they were scared of his pace. A shame Whyte didn’t take advantage in the last 15 minutes.
Holmes is so savvy.
Great all round performance; I’m ashamed of my 0-4 prediction.
Sunderland pubs are disappointing.

I think 7 for Henry is fair. I’m a big fan but, he wasn’t at his best and others outshone him today. Still a good performance.

Brannagan - Covered well defensively, had a few really good forward passes. Would hope to see him going forward more when Hanson is back alongside him.

The way Baptiste played, I don't think we can assume the defensive midfield partnership will be Brannagan/Hanson.

Can't complain about Mitchell's distribution when it's what he's told to do.

Or, if it is, Baptiste will take one of the advanced roles. The Newport goal shows what he's capable of going forward. That said, I think KR will give him bench time as well. Nice to have decent options to rotate the squad.
