Summer Signing Excitement

What past summer signings really got people excited and itching for the season to start?!

For me;

Tommy Mooney - rejecting a new contract from Swindon :) to join us did help the excitement
Manny Omoyimni - not sure why I was excited about this signing! His only real highlight before joining us was being the ineligible player that caused West Ham to replay a cup match

Maguire turning down Sunderland and getting frustrated with negotiations, to return to Oxford. 26.06.18.

When Sir Les`s helicopter was spotted & King Kev was on the way.....................................

I personally love that the King Kev rumour was started by someone without a shred of evidence on the old message board and gained such traction that he had to deny any approach in the press. Heady days!

Lee Jarman was a massive summer signing for us. Except, it was his waist line that was massive.

Chuck Peter Fear into the mix, was buzzing when he signed! Did nothing tho!!!

Yeah weirdly I thought that too as I remember getting Peter Fear in an early 90s sticker album so assumed he must have been good!

Roofe obviously and Baldock returning.

Christophe Remy seemed very exotic at the time.

Darren Purse, purely for the terrible headline I wrote for the school newspaper: “Denis Smith’s wallet for Leyton Orient’s purse.” Doesn’t even make sense.

I have NEVER forgiven Peter Fear.
In the first proper season of Fantasy Football in The Sun I chose Peter Fear and he didn't start a game. Back then it was minus three points for a non appearance. I would have finished third in the very first month of the season and got in the paper (don't think there were prizes back then mind) otherwise.
Bitter, me? Pah!

He'd also scored an absolute wonder goal against us at the Manor, when on loan from West Ham to Gillingham. Ran the length of the pitch (up the hill) and dinked it over the keeper, if I recall.

I can very rarely remember opposition goals against us from the late 90s. Just that one, and another West Ham loanee out on loan to Bournemouth, Jermaine Defoe. Went on to have pretty similar careers those too!?!
