Having heard what I have I wouldn’t call our budget not backing him.

However, if that isn’t true and he’s been given less I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we got to a situation where Rowett walks away. His stock is high & any championship club in disarray would be an idiot not to employ him after he kept us up.

Why would a story of Gary Rowett calling out our owner get leaked to the Indonesian press? I don’t think Rowett has many of their journalists on speed dial and I doubt Thohir would get called out for not providing funds and then boast about it.

Pretty easy to ignore that story for me.

And of course the same Indonesian press web site which claims we’re sending our under 19 team to play In upcoming tournament, basically seems unlikely

I don’t disagree with you at all. I doubt there’s anything in it & if he’s unhappy with the budget I was told then he’s at the wrong club full stop as we will be spending more than 10 sides in the division I reckon.

Just playing devils advocate really.

For what it's worth the source for that article is an Oxford Mail interview with Rowett where he says:

β€œWe've spoken that if we want to have next season as strong as this season, we're obviously going to have to increase the budget and spend more on players, but at the same time, that's always going to be pretty sensible for a club like ours.

"That's always down to the owner and the leadership team"

So no 'ultimatums'. Can be safely ignored.

I agree and suspect the phrase β€œRowett has given the Oxford boss an ultimatum to spend more” has been lost in translation, written by a journalist hundreds of miles away.

I think we all know we haven’t got a top half budget, and why would we? Smaller attendances, a focus on the new stadium, being wary of getting relegated and saddled with high earners, not yet established in the division, an FFP debt over 2 years which needs caution.

A couple of careful PL loans, offload the 2 biggest signings of last season who haven’t ’cut the mustard’, bank a few million from selling TG, and we should have a reasonable budget with which to compete.

I hear this fallacy mentioned a lot.

Although we will want/have to lose a number of players from the squad to achieve the correct balance both financially and numerically, it does not have to happen before we make any signings, football does not work like that. It will be a fluid process until the window closes, of comings and goings, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of those departing don't do so until the very end of the window.

I mean, not least because moving later might be the difference between a holiday in Bali, or trips to Slough and Dulwich Hamlets.

Timing really is everything.
