I’m a bit confused at where we’re at with the squad now. Do we have room for Sibley plus one more? I can’t see us leaving Sibley to kick his heels. He’s obviously stayed because he thinks he’s part of GR’s plans

It depends if the club decide to pay his contract up but I’m not sure when his deal is up.

One thought GR said after the Pompey game -
3 weeks ago that he wanted a CB and and CM. CB done but the CM…..appreciate still free agents but doesn’t seem ideal that manager said 3 weeks ago what was needed.
Other than that think it has been a good window, unless last year I think nearly every player bought in is an upgrade and improves the team not just the squad.

Currently 25 eligible players (plus Spencer as u21). Would need one to not be registered (Romeny?) in order to bring in someone out of contract.

We will sign a CM on a free in the next day or so I’m sure.

Decent window. Now time to knuckle down and start getting some points on the board. Onwards and hopefully upwards!!

We wouldn't have to pay up his contract, we could leave Sibley unregistered but still under contract. But can't see that happening.
I meant more if the club agree with Sibley he can leave and join a club so he isn’t kicking about and not playing. Otherwise it could be a case of playing U21 games and then off load in January.

Sibley has played well when brought on. Good asset for the time being until the January window opens

I agree, and think that he fits better into our current set up under Rowett than he did under Des. Not first choice by any means, but could still be a valuable squad member if called upon.

Really we’ve hardly seen Sibley, my impression of him is dominated by those two crazy fouls he did last season but he has looked better as sub this time around, I guess he could have a role.

It is all worth remembering that he played at Derby under Rowett. He will know how to get the best out of him and there could be a place in the squad for him if you need someone to come on and just add a bit of grit to the midfield, just not too much grit πŸ˜…

If we paid up Sibley now, he couldn't sign for another EFL team until January. You have to be released inside the transfer window to be able to sign elsewhere.

He didn't.
Rowett left Derby in May 2018. Sibley only signed his scholarship later that summer, and made his pro debut in August 2019.

We won't be able to sign anybody else as squad is 25. Sibley is a seasoned pro and Romeny should be back November time surely. Both will be registered I'm sure.

Based on my limited viewing so far this season (Pompey and Cov), I think it's clear the players we have brought in look to increase the general standard of the team/squad. However, I think coming into the window, people generally thought we needed three things as a priority:
1) Starting striker
2) Pace/depth on the wings
3) Depth/technical improvement in CM

I'd say we've got one and a bit of them - Lankshear (and it looks Prelec) look clear upgrades up top. BdK obviously adds a lot more technical ability than Vaulks, but that central midfield is wafer thin. We barely have enough depth to make subs in an individual game, let alone rotate over weeks if necessary, in a position that is famously attritional/tiring. And, while this Bulgarian lad might prove to be the quality we've needed on the wing, we still look a little toothless there (although admittedly Mills seems to be an upgrade on what we had last year, despite not being a new signing). That leaves quite a bit of obvious hole in the side that you would have thought it would have been a priority to address.

I don't know. I want to feel more positive about the window, because the players we've brought in all look good and are exciting, but you can't help feeling like what we haven't brought in may end up being more significant over the next few months.
