BDK and Spencer appear to be saleable assets that do improve us.

Meanwhile, Lankshear and Davies look like they are ready to make immediate impacts given their pedigree or the start of their season, respectively.

We’ve taken a couple of punts on the foreign loan market and taken Luke Harris from Fulham, via Exeter.

Despite all the talk of budgets not being adjusted, we have not spent a transfer fee since Indonesia and remain short in CM and we’ve lost our club captain at CB, also despite Brown being 8 or 9 games away from being fit.

So, did we want Brodie Spencer so badly that we were prepared to spend the remainder of our transfer kitty on him on July 10th, save for a few loan fees, or did things change as some of us have suggested? With Long, HTV and Kioso in the building at the time, it’s seems a strange one to throw our load at.

We’ll almost certainly have to go into the free agent market for a CM, which means it will almost certainly be Campbell, as he’ll be somewhere near fit after his 6 week trial with us!

Let’s assume Ingram isn’t as badly injured as first feared…imagine Eastwood on the bench in the Championship.

Strikes me that we’ve gambled. I really hope it pays off and that BDK stays fit.

What a bizarre clusterfuck of a summer - a mental pre season tour, out the transfer traps with big(ish) fees, then suddenly reduced to all manner of loans, a stroppy manager, stadium approval, the ghost of Matos playing ping pong… all culminating in putting the captain’s contract in the shredder. No wonder Allan Campbell has stuck around through it all - pure cinema.

Anyway, suspect a free agent or two is yet to come. I’m intrigued by what our best XI could achieve, but scratch the surface in a few positions, particularly in midfield and out wide, and it still feels pretty delicate.

A good spine there, striking options massively improved and finally a really high quality passer of the ball. Reasons to be positive but we’ll certainly need a few of the existing squad to find new gears and a lot rests on the shoulders of a few players staying available.

Surely not. He said that one more was through the door (purposefully not saying which way through it) and, sure enough, a few minutes later Dale's departure is confirmed....out the door he went.

Well done, Big Boy.....and now, who's on the list for January, please?

No but going to bed is a better option than watching another round of Scotchers v Bicester yellow on this thread.

Can't wait for this thread to be locked tomorrow πŸ˜‚
I’m rather enjoying it, and I reckon that within minutes of the β€˜what do we need in January’ thread opening the willy waving will reconvene and I can get me pop corn out

Hold on for all we know he could be correct
There will be many free agents floating about tomorrow
Might be Campbell, could be someone else
Let’s see in a couple of days he didn’t say bedtime today πŸ˜‚
I'm not staying up for 48 hours. I need my beauty sleep

Overall a decent window, Spencer and BDK definitely improve us, can't comment on the other signings until we've seen more of them, although Prelec looks promising and gives us a different option up top.

We've cut a lot of deadwood from the squad, although shame that a lot of it seems to be loans rather than permanent transfers.

Presumably with space in the squad, Romeny gets registered and we might see him before Christmas/New Year?

Would be quite the fall to go from a L1 loan to a NL one.

Did better at Barnet in the national league on loan than at Bristol Rovers in league one. Needs to play and play for a team that are not going to be struggling all the time, he isn’t getting that in league one.

Don’t think we’ve got a spot for anybody now unless we don’t register someone?

Agree with everything you have said.

Extending Cumming and Brown excellent.
Extension of Goodrham could be very astute, certainly seemed so at the time.
Spencer and BDK look excellent.

Lankshear knows how to score and looks good and Prelec has shown glimmers of being a great signing.
Will wait and see what L Harris brings, same with our latest loanees in Davies and Kastrev.

No real arguments on those that have gone, although I think it would have been good to have seen Sibley out on loan again.

Can’t quite get my head around pre and post β€œreview” to quote Tim Williams. If we did use all of our transfer budget on renewing existing player contracts and on BDK and Spencer it feels like quite a gamble if it was planned. No idea how much it’s cost us to extend contracts. No idea what our budget was, but to use it all up as early as we did seems a bit crazy.

All depends on whether you’re in the camp that there was a change in budget or there wasn’t. The players that are in are upgrades on those that have left. That said, we’re still light as has already been said. Will wait and see if any cover comes in I guess.
