I like him and he was one of my picks of the released lists but it got poo-poo’d a bit on here. I get why, he does look a bit pace and no brains at times, but I don’t think that’s a fair assessment.

Someone with that pace and athleticism is an asset, period. If the technical skills can be refined a bit then you’ve got a player that could cause serious damage and furthermore, would be worth an absolute packet in a couple of seasons. I’m sure a season or two ago he also had some of the best pressing statistics in L1 as well, which if he’s kept that up will have serious appeal to Rowett.

I always liked him when I watched him. Seems to have a great attitude, works hard and untidy or not, scores goals. I could see him playing wide for us and being pretty damn useful.
Agree Swaby. I think he will be versatile and could be used up top and on the wing and would be an outlet who could drag us up the pitch at times & like you say has the ability to be worth a packet in a few months time.

Type of player we should be going after as he’s available for a fee at tribunal I think, which according to some of their fans wouldn’t top £2.5m, spread over the cost of a long term contract that wouldn’t be a bad deal imo.

Pace is what we need massively and I think he’s actually a fairly tricky player too

Goodness me selling players and there worth , sorry but this speculation has to stop !! As for Cummings he’s improved since becoming a permanent contracted player and played a big part in the battle we had to stay in the Championship! We should not even think about him going elsewhere to apply his trade , nobody talks about Goodwin , a 4 hundred thousand pound flop , so far at least .
Their.

If you don't like transfer speculation then I would probably give this forum a miss for the next few months.

With squad spaces at a premium, plus Rowett looking to carry a smaller squad, I wonder how this type of gamble fits.

If he was younger and didn't take a squad space it would be understandable, however I'm pretty sure Rowett will be looking for all of those that take a space to be able to contribute immediately.

I haven't watched enough to form a solid opinion, but much like some of the shouts from the Netherlands who are >21 I suspect we are looking for them to be good to go from signing

Yep lets sell off all the best players to get some money in, to then replace all the best players that have just left, meanwhile all the players that arent good enough can stay and continue to not be good enough and take up the squad spaces!

Too many people playing football manager and trying to sell off players for some wonderkid brazilians that cost nothing.

A fair enough assessment mate. 👍

Not sure anybody is trying to sell off any players?
Tyler has been talked about a lot and surely anybody realises that every player has his price ( and this us the transfer window thread)!
I would be pleased if Cumming, Tyler and the better players stay, but it wouldn't amaze me if one does go.

He was a top 3 player in the league in his position last year. You can’t say that about anyone else in our squad.
It is a bit skewed to say that. He is only competing really with 23 others. No other position is like that. If you look at the most blocks for example, you will see that they are from certain teams. That to me probably says about the way the team plays and not so much about the individuals listed, otherwise the best defenders would be from the top teams. Would you rather one of the top blockers from Plymouth/Stoke rather than Ciaron Brown?

But look at the assists:(

Quite enjoying 'xG Prevented' (correctly) being used, and applauded, to highlight the value of Jamie Cumming this season.

By some of the people who refused to acknowledge the value of the very same metric when it (also correctly) showed Simon Eastwood to be massively out of his depth in 22/23.

Cumming was 5th among championship goalkeepers for accuracy of "launched" (i.e. long) kicks last season. And marginally ahead of the sainted Beadle at that.

Without wanting to denigrate Cumming in any way......surely what Beadle was really good at was the short passing game? Playing as a sweeper and distributing the ball quickly and accurately to players all over our own half?

It was that side of his game that impressed me the most about him, and made me think he would go a long way in the game because it's such a popular style of keeping these days.

Cumming is much more old school in that regard - easy short passes to the CBs or launch it for the most part.

Jesus Christ this forum needs a signing. We gonna end up ripping each others heads off at this rate. Not even June, is it normally so argumentative in silly season?

I get your point, the stat argument works a lot better for goalkeepers over any other position. With goalkeepers the most important attribute is nearly bundled into one stat. There isn’t really a stat for a CB (or any other position) in the same way as there is much more to a CB’s game than just blocks. I’d maybe say the top 3 GK equivalent would be a top 10 CB.

What is your mate going to do with him? Have him do the dishes and mow the lawn?

Hope it’s a very small garden else the grass where he started will need mowing by the time he has finished his pace is that far gone.
