Wonder if any bids come in for our players especially those we don’t want to loose .

As a signing, I think Ledson would be a perfectly fine squad addition, but I don't think he necessarily improves our current strongest XI and I think we should be focussing on signings that will do that.

My guess is he reunites with Mous at Pompey.
I can see him ending up at Wrexham, think he is pretty settled in the North West. Bolton wouldn't surprise me either

I would like to see Goodwin making it can’t see it though 4 hundred thousand wasted !

Does anybody else have this irrational worry that between them Birmingham and Wrexham, along with clubs such as Derby and Portsmouth, will sign any players we're after? It just feels as though we won't be able to offer what they can.
If any of the players we're after are former Dutch youth internationals with an Indonesian grandparent, then the Disney money isn't going to cut it.

I mean I think this is true - we're not winning any bidding wars for players that Birmingham or Wrexham are after.

It's why Waldron & co. really need to earn their corn this summer and identify the quality additions that we need in places that those other clubs with bigger budgets are not looking.

Something we haven't really done in the past twelve months - I think the only signings we made that weren't well know to everyone in English football were Romeny & Ter Avest......and the former of those was all Thohir, and I think the latter's agent is involved with a bunch of Indonesian players as well.

Also, Ricky Jade-Jones? Really? Dude is a slightly quicker, but less streetwise version of Harris. Miles off Championship quality, and has never scored double figures in League One despite playing in some damn good Peterborough teams (not this year, obviously, but before)

I’d argue that since Rowett came in it has been anything but a struggle. 7th in the league since Boxing Day. So we don’t exactly need to get 16 in like last summer. We can’t just keep signing players because they’ll improve our squad, we need a space for them. If Bennett, McEachran and Eastwood are ooc and don’t get an extension then we are already 3 over the 25 man squad for next year. So we need to clear out if we want to bring in.
every game has been a struggle.

I’m not sure on the Ledson signing dislike.

If we play a 4231 and the 5 centre midfield options we had for the 2 sitters were Brannagan, Vaulks, Matos & Ledson + one more signing.. I would be very happy.

McEachran leaving and Sibley & El Mizouni likely to go out on loan to the top end of L1.
For me it's down to the ambition of the owners - if we want to become a top 30 club then signing the likes of Ledson aren't going to get us there. If our budget is only ever going to be about treading water then fair enough, but I don't think that's what they'll have in mind next season.

We won't know for sure until next March, but I would suspect that our losses this season will be getting close to the maximum ÂŁ14m allowed under Finance & Sustainability rules.

I doubt we have much scope for dramatic increases in our budget from where we are now until we start generating higher revenues (either through the new stadium, or increasing our commercial revenues, probably in Indonesia mainly).

Nothing to do with the ambition of the owners. All to do with the rules of the league we're playing in.

Jade Jones has pace, if you get 1 good season out of him at Championship level, clubs higher will take notice because hes got that pace. He would be a gamble but that would be the same for any unknown european striker we could go for as well.
As for playing for Peterborough, we dont really know how many of his games have been full games or sub appearances, he must have been behind Clarke Harris for a number of seasons.
If we just look at pure appearances and goals although Mark Harris has played more Championship games, Harris 241 games 41 goals Jones 193 games 38 goals.

After all is said and done he wouldnt need to be the first choice striker we go for anyway but just an option if he doesnt cost that much with a good potential to be sold on if we manage to get him scoring.

Slightly quicker lol, he has several more gears than Harris but I do agree it hasn,t really resulted numbers wise, I think we are very limited pace wise so that would be a big positive but end product would need improvement

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we were in for Ricky-Jade Jones. He’s only 22, 6 feet tall, absolutely rapid and affordable to us. He’s not a great footballer or finisher but if the plan is to be robust, physical and hit teams on the counter then I think he might appeal.

We’d still need another one though so maybe wouldn’t be room.

I am being realistic.
We finished fifth last season in League One. Then exceeded all expectations to get promoted. Which is unbelievable.
We then go into the Championship with two players who cost us about ÂŁ1M as our most expensive players. We play clubs who bring on ÂŁ10M players after 60 mins.
The team, squad, and individual players worked their socks off to finish 17th. Most of them the League One squad. Fantastic achievement.
We have to meet the financial regulations, which are not in our favour. And the budget doesn't compete with a lot (most?) of our rivals. So we have to compete in different ways - tactics, work rate, sheer bloody mindedness. Whatever.
Don't look at what the players aren't, look at what they are. A core of players who came up from League One who fight and graft. A number of players who have grown into the Championship. Some players with potential, who need experience.
Gary Rowett is no mug and knows what he is working with, and what the constraints are. Look at the characters he has put his faith in. Will Sparky go to Real Madrid next season - probably not! Did he graft his socks off to give other people opportunities to score - absolutely. Would I want him standing next to me when it gets tough - yes, absolutely.
More than four or five changes is unrealistic. But show some faith in who we have, what they have achieved and what they can do.

That's true to an extent, but then my understanding is that we're already quite competitive in the league with our budget, at least in terms of wages.

Whilst we won't see a huge increase to the budget, the focus is likely to be more on the quality rather than quantity this summer - we won't sign anywhere near the amount of players we did last summer, and I imagine there'll be a lot of work trying to move players out.

So whilst we have constraints, the budget is still OK and the owners will still expect us to improve the squad. Adding Ledson to what we already have in our starting 11 doesn't do that.

Emil Riis is a player I’d like us to be in for, I’d imagine Preston aren’t one of the biggest payers in our league but still probably out of our budget. He’s been linked with bigger clubs a lot in the past but not sure if he’s done enough to earn a big move this summer.
