Looks like there are a few opinions stating the squad has a lot of "dead wood" which needs to go. The problem is very few players are out of contract.

This is worth reading.
"Paying off player contracts in the English Football League (EFL) can indirectly affect a club's ability to fund new players, especially within the context of the EFL's salary cap rules. While existing contracts are not fully included in a club's salary spending, they are considered at a divisional average until they expire. Paying off a contract early means a club effectively loses the ability to use that money for other purposes, including signing new players or raising wages. "

That’s why I don’t think we will do the amount of business that people think we will but also why we may well sell a player or two for funds to do the business that Rowett wants us to do, we can’t raise those funds selling Dale or Sibley though, will have to be a bigger name player.

Have I got this right then ?
If for example Sheffield United don’t go up and bin off a player on high wages and we binned off a player on lower wages then the divisional average applies. So the richer club with the parachute payments is the one better off again ?

I think we’ll probably fishing in international/European waters for more talent this summer

More Scandinavians please.

I say it every window, but just feels like they produce (pro rata) the highest volume of EFL-ready players - many of whom will be of Championship quality (and a fair few who go on to be even better).

Their own leagues (no disrespect) are relatively weak (at least financially) so the best players here are attainable.

It's the complete opposite of the top flight in Scotland - where the money is good and the footballers sh*te.

Rowett has a history of signing target man type players to lead the line. I think he signed Benik Afobe at least twice. Trying to think who’s around would fit the bill. Keiffer Moore anyone?

Yes absolutely but would be a fee breaking our transfer record for an older player who still has a couple of years left in his current contract on higher wages than we would want to pay. Absolute handful to play against but combination of fee and salary would be out of reach. Sheffield United go up and he will be back to South Coast this time at Southampton.

Yup. I've done quite a lot of work in Norway in the last few years, and have watched a fair amount of Norwegian League. Technically, it's not bad. Best 3-4 teams are probably mid-Championship standard. It's miles better than Scotland. And loads of their top flight players are really good athletes - tall & quick, and tough. There's huge interest in English football over there- a legacy from the 1960's when the (old) First Division was broadcast live every Saturday afternoon. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we are looking at players from Scandinavia.

Interestingly, which of our ex players might actually be worth bringing in? I can think of three offhand: Ben Nelson, Alex Matos and Joe Rothwell (oh, and maybe Emi Martinez as back up for Cumming)

Or the other Martinez

Cumming to Brentford is a pure guess but fits their transfer policy. Stats driven and all that. Plus Tyler to Birmingham is another guess but they did need a midfield playmaker and have the cash to splash plus Tyler wouldn’t need to move home.

Reckon that’s about £6-7M there.

Interesting, not ITK at all but wouldn’t surprise me if Cumming is attracting attention after a good season.

We need to start looking at signings that could also be assets after a quality half a season/full season performance.

3 Relegated Championship players I think we should be looking at:

Adam Randell - Plymouth Argyle (24 y/o)

Been a standout performer with 84 Championship appearances in the last two years. Think he would give us great competition with Brannagan/Vaulks & hopefully Matos.

Yousef Salech - Cardiff City (23 y/o)

8 goals in 20 Championship appearances since joining Cardiff in January. Type of target man we badly need in Rowett’s system.

Isaiah Jones - Luton Town (25 y/o)

One of the best right wingers in the Championship in 23/24 for Middlesbrough. Fell out of favour with Carrick and ended up moving to Luton. Also comfortable as a right wing back.

Dead wood regarding not up to championship standards!
I knew what you meant...Calling a footballer “dead wood” is not only disrespectful, it’s also reductive. These are professionals who’ve dedicated their lives to a demanding sport, often playing through injury, pressure, and public scrutiny. If a player is underperforming or not fitting into a team’s system, that’s a management issue—not a personal failure warranting dehumanizing labels. Everyone in a squad has a story, and dignity shouldn’t be stripped away the moment someone is out of form or favor...lets hope your boss isnt holding any dead wood.

M. Tigani on loan from Slavia Prague last season to plymouth 6ft 5 target man only 24, 2 goals in 13 games , injured for most of the season. Maybe worth a look

Another ex Everton forward getting 10 goals in 26 games in Germany. From Northampton as well.

If Coventry go up could Simms be a possibility ? Think Championship is his level rather than PL but imagine there’d be a queue for him and probably out of range anyway.

I think you have explored just about every angle of him there. Too expensive but I wonder if a loan would be possible. This is going to be such a difficult search.

If we find a decent striker and he is successful he won’t be here long anyway.

Isaiah Jones just joined Luton for £5m so is going to be way out of our budget.

Imagine the likes of Salech will be very interesting to Wrexham and their £50m of revenue.

Gabriel Osho is another very ‘Rowett’ player that’s out of contract with Auxerre and allegedly not looking to take up their option. Entering his best years now but still young for a defender.

Good athletic centre back that could cover wide as well.

Some really good players around but I think the challenge for us will be winning their signatures ahead of the competition.
