As has been mentioned. You have to take into account a transfer fee that we would have to pay for someone like Murphy and then the wages, plus extras probably.

This is just a salary, so we can offer him the potential transfer fee in wages and be no worse off. In fact, even better than a new signing as we know he can deliver for us......much less of a gamble.

It just makes sense.
He will get a signing on fee for any new contract as well surely?

Sorry to be that guy... but we got promoted to the Championship 37 days ago and LOOK at the negativity on this forum.

It's genuinely astounding.

Enjoy the ride, guys. Put trust in Ed and Des.
We can do both though..

I’m enjoying the ride and can’t wait for the start of the season. But I’m also concerned about a couple of rumours that I think are much more than unfounded gossip.

Care to share those rumours with us
Exactly we’re back to this rumours business. People slate Kip and others for supposed rumours they spread, yet we then have another post which just states about being concerned about a couple of rumours and everyone likes it. My head spins with the inconsistency of the whole thing!!

I haven’t actually started any rumour, I asked a simple (fair) question as to whether our ground issues might have a negative impact on progress.

It’s not an ITK from me, but it does seem to have uncovered something from the genuine ITKs that something is amiss.

Look at the comments, likes etc on post later and that will generally tell you if something is awry.

Murphy offered £20k a week apparently, so I am told.
Does seem rather a lot to me, if true of course.
If true then it’s funny that, after all of the moaning about Robinson offering Murphy big money, ‘waste of money’ etc etc, that we’d have been much better off if he’d been allowed to offer him a 2 year longer contract than he did!!!

I find it mad that rumours of TW going missing are seen as negative. I think it’s bloody brilliant. If it’s the case of course.

😂
He’s the most senior person based permanently in the UK let alone the club premises on a daily basis, isn’t he? If sign off duties are then left to Benson for example, from what we’ve heard that could be an almighty headache for Des and Waldron to navigate. If we take hours to do something another club can organise in minutes, I’d imagine that could be extremely costly in a transfer.

Also worth keeping in mind that uncertainty can’t help with player negotiation - I.e. how does it look to a player/agent to have the CEO missing? The stadium situation carries a nervous excitement but without a CEO to be the face of reassurance, it’s one more thing a young player especially may see as too much of a risk.

That’s the down side. Plenty of ups of course. With any luck he’s gone, gone. He’s rode the wave far enough.

I would also say it is setting a precedent, unless of course they offer all the senior players that sort of money. Maybe that’s where we are at now.
I'm not sure that's the case. Murphy was central to our promotion, and so it shouldn't be a big surprise that he's being offered top dollar.

Most players will have had promotion clauses in their contracts that would've guaranteed them a decent bump in salary, not to mention a sizeable bonus for getting promoted in the first place.

How much would we have to pay in fees (up front) and wages (over, say three years) to replace Murphy? And with that comes the risk that a replacement doesn't settle for a while, etc.
