Stansfield likely to return to Birmingham I’ve heard. £5+ offer and he wants to go back. He’d have been perfect. Would still prefer a couple of decent wingers with pace as let’s be honest we will have to counter attack in many games and pace is the best deterrent for all their players moving forwards.
£5+??? I’m available for a tenner, who is the most expensive poster?

No doubt we need to turn the screw a bit in any way we can on these forward recruits but i don’t think it’s panic stations by any stretch. There is still very little movement out of the premier league at the moment which is most likely where we’re shopping predominantly for loans. I suspect we have hard deadlines in place before we move towards others, perhaps abroad.

But ultimately if we kick off vs Norwich with what we have fit and contracted, it’ll be a likely front 3 of Pacheta, Goodwin and Goodrham. But a week or two after that it could be (something like) Al Hamadi, Mbaye Niang and Malcolm Ebiowei! Things change quickly and Waldron is a good operator - I suspect he picks clubs to deal with that are transparent with us so if we’re waiting for someone, I trust it’s for good reason as that’s who we want and we believe we’ll get them. It could be a lot worse, but we all know it needs to get better.

In any case, I think a centre back is equally important…

Squad is miles away from even giving us a fighting chance quite honestly. We can all hope but we should have done much more business than we have already.

We have to be ruthless, we are nowhere near as good a side as Plymouth when they went up last year. That’s a good benchmark of what it will take to stay up.

I won't be judging the squad or its strength on pre-season games. I can remember times we looked fantastic in pre-season but were utter gubbins when we got into competitive games and vice-versa.

Likewise with players, Danny Hylton was absolutely panned in pre-season to soon become a fan favourite whereas Jamie Guy was the absolute opposite.

We do need a centre back too.

I hope we’re not going to rely just on untried youth loans for the forward positions. We need to splash a good chunk of cash to give us a real threat up front or on the wing.

I think we will. We’ll get a balance in the end. I think we’ll get 6 more, RWB, CB, 2 wingers, a versatile 10 and a striker. Of that we can expect a chunk to be loaned, but that doesn’t necessarily mean untried youngsters.

It's not so much that we should have done more business - nine players in already is a pretty impressive haul - it's that the business we have done has been excellent, but has been wholly focused on certain areas of the pitch. And as a result, we are very, very short up top.

The fact that we're two weeks out and the two players we have to play behind Sparky are a 19 year old striker who really should be playing at a League 2/National League club right now and a 20 year old who's shown very clearly that his best position is CAM is......concerning.

Need to be bringing multiple forwards in this week, really, if we're going to be up to speed for Norwich.
Are you forgetting Goodwin?

My objection was people saying we need two, but do think we’ll struggle to find a striker who’ll be as concrete to perform for us in our system as Harris and happily willing to sign for Oxford over the other Championship clubs who’d clearly want that player.

Al-Hamadi on loan might be one dependent on if others put bids in, but it’s not the same as signing a left back.

Far more concerned about the wide areas personally than anywhere else. We need a striker for sure, but we do have a very credible option who’s perfect for how we play. Replacing Murphy a bigger concern.

Ross Stewart on loan would be the type of wow striker signing we could possibly do till January.

Southampton will want him to get fit. He could be an asset to sell for them then. He won’t feature in their PL 18.

Fully expect a new winger to join next week.

Let’s hope we can get it tied up in time for him to play a large part versus Palermo meaning he can start versus Norwich.

Goodrham Harris Ebiowei is an exciting front line until we sign other forwards to challenge them. Placheta, Goodwin & Dale will be decent squad players.

Totally agree. I’d hope we bring it at least one strong winger and one striker on permanents. At the least. I think a front three of loanees is flaky

Genuinely he didn’t play well against Exeter, nor did Sibley. Hopefully they are getting up to speed and will be properly ready v soon. Not sure Goodwin uses his physicality as well as he should, decent coaching should sort that.

We desperately need 4-5 top of the pitch quality players in, we’re going to be chasing games more often than not and need reinforcements to bring on and change games, or make a difference from the off so we can be a positive force from the outset.

As it is we look from the personnel available that we are going to set out not to lose, rather trying to impose ourselves on games.

I can’t see us bringing in more than 3 tbh.

For some reason I struggle to get that excited by Ebiowei, seems one of those players who was very good, has a lot of potential, but has been on a downward decline and I don’t necessarily see that changing with him joining us.

Hope I’m wrong, still very young.

Azeez & Cosgrove with 2/3 loanees.. maybe Dembele/Ebiowei/Al Hamadi (or even try bringing him on a perm if viable). That would give us serious options. On top of Dale/Placheta/Harris/Goodwin.

Excited to see who we bring in

I’d take Cosgrove. Single handedly took Bolton on in the play off semis and nearly got Barnsley to an unlikely Wembley appearance. Always looked a good player when I’ve seen him - strong, good in the air and on the deck and can finish.

No chance I would take him 6 goals last season and to think that’s what we would have to rely on Al Hamadi on loan or perm 👍

Linked players who played today.
Donley for spurs in japan doak for liverpool in the usa. Singh and Saito in the olympics. Matos for chelsea xi vs borehamwood. Azeez scoring for reading vs qpr.

We are 5 players short in my opinion to give us a decent chance of surviving. We need a Striker, Left winger, Right winger, CB (preferably Left footed) and a RB.

Fill these 5 up with loanees will do, unless the whole Matete incident has put off some clubs loaning us players.
People keep saying the best is yet to come 🤔 I’m a little concerned.

Hope that’s true as we need some serious quality still. Not just one or two but about 5-6 real quality additions.

As DB said, everyone is pretty much waiting for the same players to become available.

I imagine we are hesitant around first loans and most probably looking to those that have at least been on loan to the level before - it’s why the Ebiowei name has cropped up.

He has played some Championship football but had some poor loans since so most probably overlooked by others.

It’s a standard issue in the EFL that the attacker/striker market is small. The pool becomes smaller when looking for proven output at the level, I suspect for us it pushes many players out of reach.

Now in the Championship we at least have the opportunity to look abroad (compared to pretty tight restrictions in League One). If we have the scouting department and infrastructure to make the most of that, I don’t know, but would be prudent to maybe look elsewhere rather than fighting with half the Championship.

The club will have specific metrics that they look for in any given position - it’s easy for us to throw out a name, but the intention is to feed in to DB’s preferred game style…which further narrows the pool.

We obviously need wingers and I hope we don’t go into this season relying on two strikers as we do most seasons.

Plenty still to do, in a short time!
