Leigh, especially if Bennett and Currie return, Goodwin and Dale?
Yep Dale could go. I don't rate him at all this level. But wouldn't let Leigh go. A defender who scores goals in a team not scoring many. It would seem silly to move him on.
Goodwin has not done much right or wrong to suggest he should be on the move. Ebiowei not up to this level either and Edwards just one injury too many now.

All in all it leaves 3 or 4 possibilities for squad additions January.

I see it’s finally being picked up on that Vaulks preference is to play in a holding 2 rather then by himself in that role. Also getting a mention on the Dub.m this week. I think we could still do with a proper midfield destroyer, allowing the two other midfielders to push forward. Ideal window for me would be CB, CDM, CF and a reliable pacy winger. A lot to ask in one ludicrous January window.

Could look at Sheffield Wednesday line ups and gather that (re: Vaulks). He is obviously at his best when he can focus on breaking up play before keeping it simple and allowing someone else to have the responsibility of playing.

The decision we have to make is:
- are we happy for Brannagan to play alongside Vaulks? Does that get the best out of him? Wasn’t the Vaulks addition meant to push Brannagan further forward?

- could McEachran be the ball player alongside if we do wish to play a double pivot? Does he have the legs?

- if wingers return, will we still look to play a double pivot? Will Vaulks return to being the lone #6?

Intriguing to see what happens

Think Negru will return from Salford. Been one of the standout centre backs in L2 this season.
That’s an interesting shout..

I really think he has something about him, so hope we haven’t seen the last of him. But is he really ready for Championship football? From a squad total numbers and quality perspective the only way I think he comes back is if we replace Nelson with a like for like up and coming youngster (Ronnie Edwards seems to be getting mentions) and Thorniley moves on.

Interesting option though..

It's more likely that Negru will be recalled and then sent out to a league one side. He's not yet ready for Championship football week in, week out, and there's no value in him sitting on our bench. I wouldn't write him off yet, but he needs to be playing at the moment and I'm not convinced he'll do that enough here this season.

Would we do that to Karl?

I’d love to know the thinking behind the signing of Vaulks, I think he’s a decent player and his experiance will be vital. However I feel like we were always going to start the season in the “reverse mullet” leaving him playing a role he’s not use to playing. I suppose El Miz was signed having played a deeper role for Leyton Orient, only for the decision to be made that he maybe better in a more advanced role. Like you say will be very interesting to see what we choose to do.

A handy way of avoiding the question. Do you want to replace the manager? It’s all about opinions- why are you reluctant to say what yours is?
Because it felt like you were putting words in my mouth - when have I ever ducked an opinion?

I’m undecided. Part of me isn’t sure what a few more games is going to tell us. Part of me feels the club would benefit from a different profile of manager at this point in its journey and for the next few seasons. The rest of me really doesn’t want the story to end with a sacking, I’m desperate to see him do well. I want him to rediscover that aura he had in the summer and get control of matches again. Just feels like the spark has faded and the attention to detail isn’t there like it was.

I prefer Brannagan in the 6 role as he was during the promotion season.

Beautiful!
Yawn, again.

I have a foot in both camps where Des is concerned but right now I think we need something more than he’s got. Tonight’s selection and performance is perhaps more important than the result, but Saturday would be where I’d expect the start of a resurgence and points on the board, despite that also being no picnic. He needs points this week.

Hoping we will buy/loan a 20-goal-a-season striker in January is Pie in the Sky. Absolutely no chance. We need the over-expensive Goodwin to get onto the pitch and justify his fee.

I doubt we are, barring a miracle, ever getting a twenty goal striker at this level, certainly not an oven ready one.

Goodwins fee is a pittance at this level, although we didn't buy him at this level its where we are now. No player moving to us for £400K is coming with much of a pedigree, transfer fees have moved past that.

We obviously haven't got any value for what we have spent on him though, but I find it hard to blame the lad, injuries and then he just hasn't been given a chance since getting back fit, with one up front if the manager considers you third choice and the other two up front are fit then you are not going to play much, we rarely go two up top even when chasing a game and you are not going to sub a striker who only came on in the 60th minute, almost a waste of time him being on the bench apart from the fact you are allowed so many sitting on it now.

I think we may have one anyway, Scarlett could be on 8-10 by January at this rate and he’s yet to start in a version of us that’s on the front foot. But if Goodwin isn’t going to get a sniff then we’d be daft not to do something about that.

If say Scarlett starts tonight, we are a couple of goals down and not looking like getting back into it on the hour mark and Harris comes on then you would wonder why we wouldn't loan Goodwin out in January, if in that scenario you can't get a run out over an out of form Harris who has played a lot of minutes already then short of injuries you are never playing.

I will say that if we did somehow sign an Al Hamadi type (can't see it being him or anyone at that level but still) I have a feeling Spurs might recall Scarlett if they get a hint he won't be starting much, so its a complicated situation.

Agree with all of that including - sadly - that it is a lot to ask for in January
