Ex-Player Thread Stanley Mills

This thread is just idiots arguing amongst themselves.

Can we get it back on track?

I wasn’t there but seems to me Stan didn’t quite know how to interact with his teammates after we scored, especially Brannagan he did go over to GoD and other players did acknowledge his part in the goal, but all a bit subdued
I wouldn’t be surprised if Brannagan and a few other senior players have told Stan that he is bang out of order for what happened last week and therefore he doesn’t quite know what to do at the moment and he’s got to earn their respect back.
If we get to September 2nd without him going,, Stan knows he’s got half a season to put things right and the best way he can do that is become unplayable.

I look at his body language at the moment and think that’s just like me after a row with Mrs Aldo, I’ve come back from a curry night loud and drunk and she hasn’t spoken to me for two days, I’m now trying to get back into her good books but realise I’ve got another week of this before things are back to normal.

He did look like he didn’t want to be tackled, passed the ball quickly generally rather than running with it (not that it’s a bad thing)

However I feel like he looked awkward rather than uninterested.
I think your last sentence was right. Something was off with his body language, but I think it was perhaps awkwardness of feeling he couldn’t be celebrating like he’s never been happier after the last couple of weeks.

He turned up, he played, he created a goal. If you watch Cam’s penalty the person in the middle ready to tap it if it’s saved is Mill’s. If nothing changes over the next week and he’s still an Oxford player after the deadline, perhaps we’ll see him a bit more natural looking until Jan.

I do have a bit of sympathy for Stan as well. People are saying about Preston losing their first 2, but he could have been playing in front of 20k today testing himself against players who were in the Premier League and World Cup, whilst taking home a chunk more money and being closer to his roots. Today’s game at Stevenage couldn’t have been further from that.

If no embargo I think we’d all be ok with him being there and wish him well. So he’s a victim of our current situation, like many others (fans included).

Straight after the goal Brannagan ran up to Mills and jumped all over him, Helik put his arm over his shoulder and brought him into the circle, and then Emakhu got him in a headlock and ruffled up his new hairdo.

From the body language, it looked to me like the senior players were doing their best to make him feel part of the group.

I doubt missing the trip to Spain has helped, but from the start of the summer they've probably all known he was angling for a move, and will be quietly over the moon that it's not worked out, even if they understand it could take a bit of time for him to get his head straight.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t springs to mind here.
If Stan had celebrated wildly, certain people would have moaned about that. Because he didn’t show his usual emotion after scoring, they’re moaning about that instead.
The lad genuinely can’t win.

Because we need to remind you that we were there when only 2 coaches and half a dozen cars went to away games.

Because we used to stand on the terraces away from home getting soaked through to the skin before a 3 hour coach journey back from Rotherham when it took an hour and 45 mins to get onto the motorway.

Because we were there before many of you were hot and sticky in your old man’s ball bag.

Because football wasn’t invented when the PL was born.

Know your history.
Oh and I would rather be a troll than a snowflake.
Is there a third option?

And Preston are only out of relegation zone because Soton have PTS deducted.

As I said before and got slatted for think he'll have a decision to make in Jan re if he wants it or not. As think Preston will be relegation fodder this year
In the 24 games Preston have played in 2026 theyve won just 6 and lost 13. The previous 24 games they lost just 5, definitely a team on the slide.

Our fans singing the name of a player who couldn’t be arsed last week and who looked like he’d rather be anywhere but today. Says a lot.. we are an absolutely supine fanbase.,
Yeah we should all move to Sheffield and spend our lives criticising the players and management from afar.

Ah doesn’t show that on the highlights, still think he will be back to normal after the Huddersfield game

He was sat just behind me. There was one nugget who came up before the game and had a go at him - couldn't hear what he said or what the reply was - but otherwise he was left alone.

EDIT: also, it's wrong to say that Stan didn't get involved in the celebrations. He may not have been very animated but he certainly went over and joined in and gave and received handshakes from his teammates.
Fair play to Danny Mills going in the away end.

He didn't even clap when Stan came on, let alone set up a goal. Just looked like he was about to burst into tears for 90 minutes, then left when the board went up. Haven't the foggiest why he bothered.

You make out like we are the only group of football supporters to ever do that. Is the idea of supporting a football club an alien concept to you?

Two things.

1. Fair play to both Mills and Mills Snr. Mills for showing up and getting an assist and for Mills Snr for going to support his son in the away end. I don’t agree with the way he’s acted, but fair enough. He’s fronted up, taken some stick and gone and supported his son. Even if his concept of a step up for Stan liked be very misguided.

2. If Mills does that as an Oxford player at any point prior to May 2026, he’s sharing his assist/the goal on Instagram and he’s jumping onto the bundle giving it large. You can go back through his instagram and see it.

Appreciate Instagram/social media shouldn’t be a complete barometer as to one’s feelings, but it is telling IMO. Whether it changes as the season progresses and PNE look more likely to be relegated remains to be seen.

On a complete side note, great to see the likes of Helik, Currie and Brown all celebrate (as you’d expect). The three of them could probably attract moves if they were that way inclined.
On the social media thing, he doesn't seem to be very active at the moment at all. Which is understandable given the things that get said. Probably trying to keep out all the noise.

Think Mills may have been a little nervous when he came on, not from playing again but maybe the reaction from our fans, no problem their, he soon settled down after the assist for Gats goal and the reaction of both fans and players.
Shame we do not have our home game next Saturday v Reading to help him back in if that is what he wants, think he may have realised that by his reactions over the transfer he had upset everyone.

Biggest irony would be for us to be top 2 by January, Preston to be bottom 2 then us to get promoted by the end of the season and them to be relegated and swap leagues . Poor Stan
Still a few twists to Stan leaving I feel, if he knuckles down more attractive suitors then Preston will be having a look, if Preston are struggling and bin their manager before January, would Preston's next manager be interested in Mills? If Preston are nailed on relegation fodder does the Mills and co get a bit twitchy?

If Preston are fighting championship survival i
Wonder what the odds would be on Rowett getting a job there . Would Mills still be interested then

It’s simple. If Stan plays well till January, he will get a much better move than Preston.

They are not in a good place at the moment. Fans already arguing with coaching staff. Not able to make the signings they want. Deepdale may have bigger attendances than us, but it is a morgue. And last of all they are dross and relegation fodder.
