Ex-Player Thread Stanley Mills

As yet Mills hasn’t had a substantial bid that OUFC will accept so the training on his own rubbish is exactly that re Ramsey .
I believe that Mills will be training with the team next week and up for selection against M.K. unless a sensible offer comes in .
I would impose a club fine myself if he hasn’t conformed to his contract also BdK , players cannot dictate to clubs and hold them to ransom, it about time the board hardened there approach!

Quite. Lots of talk last season that the players weren't trying or that certain players were 'lazy'. Laziest form of criticism in my opinion. And if you know anything about professional footballers, it's very rarely the case. Also, while I'm not a huge fan of the cliché, you'll notice that every recent manager has said that this is a very 'honest' group of players. In other words, if they're playing badly it's not because they're not trying.
 
From what Ramsey said about Mills training on his own last week and being reintroduced this week, it seems to me that the PNE deal is off, they’ve moved on to other targets, and Mills will be back in contention for next week unless someone else actually meets our valuation.

Hopefully Mills knuckles down and starts putting some match winning performances in for us

Unfortunately, yes we do. This is what people are missing. That is unless we want to do this all again in league two?

If they are still here come September they will play. And they’ll need to play well if they expect to get out of here in January.

They might not be motivated to do it for us but they might do it for themselves and Ramsey since he’s continued to defend the indefensible.
 
I used to work freelance and would sign a contract that meant I worked for a company for a set period for a certain fee. I detested some of the roles, but worked until the end date.
Stan has signed a highly paid contract with an end date. He might want to move on from Oxford but until the club can replace him, he is contracted to Oxford.
Until the embargo has ended, the club needs him.

I hope this is all speculation and he’s showing some loyalty, after we brought him in from his injury.

I think I’m living in a parallel universe.
Mills and BDK played a few games in the champ as part of a relegated club who were poor on all fronts considering the money spent.
I think the jury is still out on both players, and whilst I think it’s fair enough if we receive 4 or 5m bids for these lads (embargo or not that is the kind of money we should be accepting), neither of these players should be dictating anything.
I feel they both owe us a fair bit if I’m honest.

And in a sense this is just like a normal situation. The two players were probably our most valuable assets, and were always likely to seek a move when we got relegated. We were always going to want a lot of money for them. Surely the players know that? The only thing different is that the players may believe that we’re desperate to sell because we’ve run out of money, and won’t be able to get any more. Do they know something we don’t? Perhaps they do, perhaps they don’t.
 
I have to say, this feels a little poor from Mills. We gave him a chance, then rehabilitated him, gave him the chance to thrive in the championship. He could give us 6 months of full commitment, and leave in January 27 if need be.

Perhaps. But I think we shouldn’t speculate too much about what he has or hasn’t done. We’ll learn a lot more in the next few days.

Well if we were desperate to sell we would have done that already surely?
We appear to be playing hard ball ( which is fair enough) snd the actions don't suggest for one moment that we have run out of money.

He did all his rehab at Everton didn't he?
 
If they want to go put in for a transfer request, not just down tools. I remember something like this with Kiefer Moore at Cardiff downed tools till he got transferred to Bournemouth . Surly if players are under contract they should play their best. It is their job after all?

That is a good point and one I'd overlooked, but the point it we had faith in him after this injury. I know he is of good character and probably my favourite player (if a 49 year old man is allowed to have one of those). It just sticks in the craw a little added to the silence from above.
 
Consider this, if Mills or BDK got seriously injured in a training session tomorrow and were out for 6-12 months, they’d then still be expecting and overjoyed for OUFC to pay their full wages every week.

Whilst they are fit and well they should be working their socks off for us and showing a professional attitude. If the club decides they stay then they stay, until such time as OUFC decides they can leave or their contract expires and the very least we should expect is 100% effort and commitment.

I’d have made them both travel and be in the stands yesterday, no excuse for not doing that, if they refused don’t pay them, simple.

Let’s hope this week brings a change in attitude or a massive sale figure, I don’t want to be hearing of refusal to train or play, that’s completely unacceptable.
 
There are probably discussions going on with regard to both players, and until those get resolved it doesn't make sense for all parties involved for them to play in a League Cup game.

I think it will be different next weekend but we'll see. At the moment there no evidence that either player has downed tools or is holding the club to ransom.

That’s a bit harsh. The guy was a decent player and has taken on a difficult job where pretty much all his focus has to be concentrated on results. Don’t ask him to be good at all the politics involved as well in this situation.

I think you’re right. From the outside it doesn’t look great, with him absent from matches and his dad liking every post on Instagram for the club he’s being linked to. So I can see why fans would jump to that conclusion and feel a little bit disrespected. But the other side you’ve got a player who probably is drawn to returning to the Championship and the North West.

The biggest frustration for me is that in our current situation where we can’t sign anyone we’re reliant on having 23 players fully committed to the cause who are ready to compete in our moment of adversity, it feels right now, just from what we’re seeing, that 2 are not. But benefit of the doubt to them, perhaps we’ll learn something, at some point, that explains exactly what’s going on.

Yeah, I get what you mean. But I don't think he would've exactly been consigned to the scrap heap if we hadn't signed him.

I know there's no such thing as real loyalty on either side of the club/player relationship these days, and that as fans we tend to probably project ourselves and our own feelings on to the players.

But if I did want a move and my head was a bit all over the place because of it, as soon as it seemed unlikely in a given window I'd knuckle down and set my sights on playing well, raising my profile, increase my earning potential, and doing my utmost to put myself in a position where fans of my current club wouldn't begrudge me a move up a division.

As a fellow 49 year old man I will defend your right to have a favourite player (mine last season was Shemmy).
 
Maybe Ramsey ain’t up to the challenge of management yet .
I am bewildered by the statement he made about Mills , he’s trained on his own ! We all know there’s much more to it but misleading , or trying to , was illness to blame , a fit young man who played in the last friendly, all I want is the truth!!
Unfortunately they, the board lie through silence as do the manager re Mills and excuse's , it’s as plain as the Nose on your face .
Stop the porkies please I want the truth !
