The forum would encourage all members to consider joining OxVox during this important moment in our history. See here for more information.
Open your mind, it's not necessarily that we want/need to sell, it's the players decision at the end of the day. As much as I love Stan, if he wants off then so be it. He wouldn't be the first player to force a move. Go check out his father's history of hoovering up cash as a player.
Good luck enforcing that.Legally, no it isn't.
About time a club stood up to its players and made them play out the contracts they signed if that's what's best for the club (and it clearly is for us in this instance if the money we've been offered isn't enough)
If they are under contract then it isn’t their decision. Of course they can decide not to contribute much, but that’s probably quite unwise. Better to showcase what you’ve got in L1 then look for a big move in Jan.Open your mind, it's not necessarily that we want/need to sell, it's the players decision at the end of the day. Good luck with not trying to.Good luck enforcing that.
Stan Mills comes across as the kind of person who would still give his all for Oxford, even if he was denied a transfer. If they are under contract then it isn’t their decision. A player in the team that wants to move on can only be disruptive for the squad, so no way would the club block a move. Can't see Stan being disruptive though.Good luck with not trying to.
I know Aaron Ramsey is in a tough position here, but I'm getting tired of being bullsh*tted tbh.
Not sure about that. I think most players understand that they can’t necessarily immediately move on as soon as circumstances change.A player in the team that wants to move on can only be disruptive for the squad, so no way would the club block a move. Can't see Stan being disruptive though.
Go and play with the U21s they may say, sadly for us they are now a part of the 1st team squad!!
I would really like Stan and BDK to remain with us, but external forces dictate their future - agents looking for a bung, family looking for a move closer to home or a pay increase, or clubs looking to feast of a fallen corpse. Take your pick.
COYY!!
And i would hope we could be understanding about that.Medical decision to train on his own
That's a new one
At this rate nobody will believe a word Ramsey says unfortunately

It is what it is. If you were offered more money and working for a higher level firm, I am sure you would want to go. If Radio 5 approached Jerome and said we will pay you a lot more money to come and commentate on the Prem, he would seriously think about taking it. We are are a club with a transfer embargo who has to cut the costs, the idea that we would say no if the right money was offered for our player is laughable. If a player really wants to go, then forcing them to stay never really works. There are not many other lines of work where you do not have the freedom to choose where you work if you are offered a better deal by someone else, all be it after serving a notice period etc .Legally, no it isn't.

Forcing a player to stay in ordinary circumstances is not what any of us would want to see, but we’ve made our bed and these are not ordinary circumstances. It is what it is. 100%, they are under contract whether they like it or notLegally, no it isn't.

Yes but we need to balance that against going down again if we leave ourselves threadbare. Perhaps we should’ve thought about this in January and taken the (inevitable) medicine of relegation with some sort of pot to p**s in.No. They are not, we are under a transfer embargo and need to cut costs.
Yes, agree, the price has to be good.Yes but we need to balance that against going down again if we leave ourselves threadbare. Perhaps we should’ve thought about this in January and taken the (inevitable) medicine of relegation with some sort of pot to p**s in.
I’ll admit, I remember being back in January thinking we need to spend to have a chance, but what am I to know about the club’s financial plight and the upcoming rule changes. But sure as s**t the club should know and should’ve been prepared.
Fast forward to where we are, the next best thing is to keep as much of what we have as we can. Trim the fat, sure, but players like Mills cannot go lightly. If the money for him gets us out of the embargo with headroom to move in the market then I’ll give him a lift. Otherwise it would be tough tits as far as I’m concerned, we need you here.
Yes of course the money has to be right.IF the right money is offered, of course.
That’s not what we’re discussing here - if the money was right, they would be gone already.
The question is do you let the players move if you don’t get offered what you believe they are worth?
And my answer in our current situation is no - because there’s a good chance we’re relegated if we do and that’s the fast track to oblivion; we are much better off with Stan and BDK in the squad, even if they are pissed off.
If we can get past transfer deadline day with wantaway players still here then you would think the penny would drop and they would realise their best shot of a transfer is then to get fit and play well ahead of January. They're going to be pretty far down any clubs list of targets if they've spent over 4 months sulking. If there was ever a time for a club to resist 'player power', reject all offers (unless they hit release clause, or are the sort of money for Stan that can get us out of this embargo) and tell our contracted players to knuckle down and play out the deals they agreed - it's us now.
The squad we had today was solid enough and workmanlike, but so lacking in creativity and attacking imagination......if that's what we're left with on Sept. 1st then a tough relegation battle awaits us. But add Mills and BDK to the mix, and we'll have a chance to be competing higher up the table. Obviously in our current situation, there's no-one else we can add at this stage who will help us to the same extent.
They may not like it.....but sulking won't help them get the move they want so they'll need to play as best they can.
Yes of course the money has to be right.
I think I’d go one further with BDK and say “suck it up, no one thought you were worth it”. But that’s why I don’t manage anyone. And from everything we’re hearing from Jerome etc. clearly it isn’t yet.
All I’m saying is that if the money doesn’t get right (ie hit BDK’s release clause or get over 4m for Stan) then we have to be brave enough to tell the players sorry, you’re going nowhere
