Current Player Thread Stanley Mills

To most in the Championship, £3m is peanuts
Mills has proven to be a good winger in.the Championship, so I am.not sure that this will be anywhere near out of reach
I’m not saying it’s out of reach by any means to most. I just imagine (I have no idea) that the clubs I mentioned above and particularly pompey and Charlton probably wouldn’t be taking the risk on him when I imagine their budgets are still pretty low.
Who knows though! I’ll keep my fingers crossed

based on previous experience, those tasked with valuing our players(assets) have appeared to suffer from small club syndrome, by( IMO) low valuing our players who are sought after by so called bigger clubs, and also ended up accepting low, speculative offers time and time again

If a player wants to leave, let them go by all means, but at least hold out for the real market value, Oxford United are not a bargain basement club holding an everything must go sale. Which is how the club have often behaved in the past
I think the problem is that some of them have release clauses which have a value set when they sign the contract. If their market value goes up during their time with us, the value in the contract doesn’t.

could that release clause value not be revised every so often ?

Depends on the wording of the contract. Some may need agreeing whole new contract, which would likely involve paying more to get rid of a clause. Some contracts will have clauses that change release clauses on relegation - in extreme cases a free transfer clause.

Sure, but it would have to be to the player’s advantage too. You can’t just say “hey stan you’ve been playing out of your skin so we’re going to double your release fee. All good?”
fair comment- nonetheless those tasked with those kind of things have on too many occasions , IMO, given away some of our saleable assets for knockdown fees.Which isnt good for the club, certainly not with top 30 aspirations as the target
