General Stadium Compliance

The Club need to do something about the smoking in the North Stand Cubicles. Young boys lock themselves in and share cigarettes while their mates congregate outside the door deeming the already scarce khazies out of reach for anyone that needs them. The stewards know but turn a blind eye.
Can't wait to see the back of this hole.

Is there not a smoking area outside the stand?! Being a smoker myself I still get annoyed with people smoking in the toilets in the east stand when there is an area to go to outside.

further to the issues with the path to BBL from the ground, the council are washing their hands of the matter as it doesn't breach planning...

"I have visited the site and walked the entire length of the path in question and from what I have seen, the hard surface path which is available for walking on is not impeded or blocked by the presence of the fencing erected by the developer. I does not appear to me to be a breach of planning control.

If you have concerned about public safety and crowd issues during football games, I would advise you to take you concerns to the football club itself who may be able to provide some form of marshalling, or failing that, contact the police non-emergency line with you concerns. Unfortunately, I do not believe anybody at the Council can assist you with this matter."

Agree entirely. It's the worst part of the ground for it, and was really bad at half time last Tuesday. It's the family stand, ffs, and will likely put off families coming again. I avoid taking my boys down there at half time because it's a bit like a pub in the 90s.

If you find this happening please report to a steward or text REPORT and details to 60075 so that it can be dealt with at the time.

@OUSP - as everyone else is washing their hands around the path issue, do you know if the club is doing anything bar the stewards at the top of the stairs? I realise there probably isn't a lot, but no-one else seems to want to do anything about it.

We discussed it with the club again today. The club is in contact with the council, but they can't do anything off-site so the stewards at the top of the stairs is the extent of what the club can do.
Note that the path is being relocated in a few weeks as the development progresses.
Nobody likes changing their match routes and routines, but there are alternatives (e.g. through overflow to Falcon Close).

Those stairs should have been significantly widened five years ago, it may be the council's area of responsibility but surely the club could have worked with them and maybe funded the work. Too late now as we are supposed to be moving, but there's still a couple of seasons to go and plenty of opportunity for accidents to take place.

Might be worth the club publicising alternate routes & get stewards to direct.

I've just had a call from a councillor, and they have raised it with the head of the council as they don't want it to fall through the cracks between authorities/departments. They did at least understand the situation and realise the potential scope of the risk. They have been there (although not yet on matchday) and can see the issue.

The planning department follow up grows ever more defensive - "your concerns with regard to the alleged congested nature of the pathway in question on matchdays"

@OUSP Will the relocating of the of the path have street lighting? Will the relocating of the path be widely publicised by both the City Council AND the club*, in advance of home games affected? Are the oxford mail aware that the current route is congested and potentially safety is being compromised post home games?**

** If the answer is no, maybe suggest they get a reporter and photographer along this coming Saturday AND Tues eve?

* some OUFC supporters attending home games live on Blackbird leys, also many travel ( BY BUS) to BBLeys for home games, and travel home post match also by bus, from Blackbird leys - catching their bus at the stop just off Knights road, therefore the city council SHOULD be considering the safety of many who are using public transport or walking to and from home games

The finished re-located right of way is due to go along a yet to be constructed section of path (at an angle further towards the school) until it meets a yet to be constructed residential road at which point in follows the road pavements. The entry point from the stadium will be at the same bridge crossing point. lighting will have to be provided. How this will work in the short term whilst this route is surrounded by building works, which I assume it will be for at least a year. So likely worse before better.

Thank you for following up on this

Fair play to the councillor I have been in contact with. One of the things discussed (the removal of the bike gate at the Knights Road end) has happened and helped a bit with flow.

I use this route every game and it was becoming worse and worse. Today I noticed the missing bike gate at junction with Knights Road whilst walking to the ground and wondered if it would make a difference. It certainly did. On the way out it was free flowing all the way. Saved probably 10 minutes if not more. Well done to all concerned
