 Southampton spying on Middlesbrough

Exactly.

Back in 2011, these 2 fellas tried to mug me (one had a blade, the other had a rounders bat) but I managed to escape them with both my health and all of my money and possessions. Should they avoid punishment because they didn't actually manage to rob me of my cash and phone? No.
And if you saw them again now would you smack one of them in the mouth for old times sake?
I know I would.

They did know what they were doing was against the rules though, that is obvious from the whatsapp messages they we have all now read. They just didn't think that if they broke them the punishment would be as severe.
Indeed, it is one of the reasons the punishment is so severe, they initially lied and have been forced to incrementally backpedal ever since.

This defending of the manager is just getting worse and worse. Eckert can probably take the club to the cleaners if they sack him based on his trying to put the club in a better position whether that was by fair means or foul.

The FA can probably take action by suspending Eckert and the recent transcripts are absolutely disgusting and damming against him. The backing he is getting from his employer is sickening beyond belief. But they have their position to protect too however distasteful it is.

Now I hope that the FA suspend him for a minimum of 12 months and put the people who control Southampton FC on notice regarding future behaviour. But I would also expect that given the performance of the Southampton hierarchy in this matter that they also refer this back to the EFL for future incursions to be punished with instant demotion.

Too late for us but I think the message needs to go back to Southampton to make them realise that this punishment was not over harsh but perhaps more lenient than it could have been.

I want the board to focus on doing everything to get us ready for a promotion campaign next season and not worry about performative bullshit to appease a couple of fans.
I think our fans played a pretty big role in getting us out of this league and keeping us in the league above, for what it’s worth.

Anyway, Southampton should never let this die. I am disappointed that they appear to have let today pass without a further statement.

Somebody has suggested that every new EFL match ball is checked to see if Southampton have inserted any devices in them.

So if you don't know something is wrong why would you only do it three times because according to that statement from the head coach it happened every game when he was in italy

Something just doesn't add up

If you don't know that spying on opponents training sessions is wrong, why the hell would you send your YTS kid to watch Ipswich disguised in an Eastleigh training kit?!?

That doesn't exactly scream "I believe this is perfectly normal, legal behaviour", does it?

Southampton as a club is clearly rotten from top to bottom. If they won't clean house and force their manager to face the consequences for his actions, the EFL should do it for them with a lengthy ban for Eckert.

So the manager claims he didn't know the rules
Before becoming Southampton manager he was assistant manager at Barnsley for 2 years
His assistant head coach at Southampton is
Ben Garner
Garner has held several head manager roles in the Football League, taking charge of Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic, and Colchester United.

Does he not talk to his assistant

If the Owner is relying on Eckert because he produced "results" - what exactly was behind the successes? You have to wonder.

Their owner is clearly just trying to create a siege mentality around the club now, and make a martyr of TE. Suggested on the radio yesterday that he only had an 18-month contract, so if the FA were to ban him for any reasonable amount of time that would conveniently see him gone anyway!

They all knew it was wrong, and it wouldn't surprise me if this had gone fairly high up the food chain and sanctioned on the basis that even if they were fined 5x what Leeds were, it would be worth it...unfortunately for them the EFL weren't messing around.

This has become a really bad situation. Southampton have significant fan presence locally (I have several Saints friends), & they are sick & fed up with the defensive stance taken by their Board. At every upcoming match they will suffer the "CHEATS" chanting. They couldn't just sack Eckert - most of the analysts would have to go too - and the nuclear cash flow consequences of this saga means they cannot afford to sack anyone!
Imagine the away match at 'Boro and the return on the south coast when all police leave will be cancelled!

...all police leave cancelled?

Is it national hysteria day or something?

Jeez what a pitiful reaction. Hold up your hands, take the punishment and it'd all be an amusing historical footnote in six months.

Sticking with the cheat manager is going to look stupid if/when they have to sack him half way through next season as would probably be statistically likely anyway.

I don't know which is worse:

Soton issuing a series of belated sorry/not sorry messages indicating they don't take any of this at all seriously and aren't going to do anything about it internally...

.,or, the vocal proportion of the Saints fanbase continuing this victim blaming approach to Boro's crybaby fanbase...

I do feel for those fans that weren't happy with what their club did in the first place, accept the punishment handed down and are becoming increasingly saddened by these subsequent events.

I realise it is impossible to turn your back on your club completely, and/or go elsewhere, but I wonder what level in downturn in attendances they'll see this season with people who have lost respect for their owners and don't want to spend 2hours a week being called 'cheats' by opposition fans??

Why did this take so long?
The EFL threw them.out of the play offs in a few days.
Why has it taken so long and what 3 weeks before their season starts, before this inevitable charge?
It is quite possible that he will be banned from the English game for a while and Southampton may have to quickly change their manager
I don't have huge sympathy for Southampton overall, but in this case it all seems to hav3 taken longer than was necessary

Southampton admitted the cheating had happened fairly quickly so the club punishment could be made, presumably it takes a proper investigation to point the finger at individuals.

I think if the club had just stonewalled the accusations, probably a decent chance they could be in the Premiership now, doubt anyone would be brave enough to retroactively chuck them out.

Oh well!

Eh? What?

Southampton have acted appallingly through these whole shenanigans. Wankers running the club, wankers managing it, absolute weapons for fans.

They only (reluctantly) admitted to what they had to, and have whined like a little bitch the whole way through, when the reality is that they should have been relegated or worse.

F*ck the lot of them.

I wouldn’t call there fans weapons
The supporters have done what all supporters would do and defend their club when it was getting pelters from all sides
