Southampton allegedly spied on Middlesbrough’s training. And the EFL have charged them!

I'm not surprised Southampton fans are embarrassed. If proven, it's a really poxy and mickey mouse thing to do.

They have received a lot of plaudits for the way they have played since the new year and this takes some gloss away.

There also wasn't a rule against that at the time, so perhaps a points deduction wouldn't have been possible? Whereas as there is one now, perhaps the punishment could be more harsh?

Point deduction would be pointless the best scenario would be to give Middlesbrough a 3-0 lead

There has always been a “behave with utmost
Good Faith to each other” rule which captures situations like this without having to have a “no fireworks at the team hotel” type rule for every situation.

Zero defence, a Southampton employee doesn’t end up at Middlesbrough training ground with cameras etc by accident, any fine is going to be minuscule if they do get promoted such are the rewards, already rules against it as Mark says above. If they want to appeal it then the risk of that should be that you are thrown out of the FL if you lose.

Yes, a £200,000 fine like Leeds received would be miniscule compared to the financial rewards of promotion. This will be why the EFL have requested the independent disciplinary committee make a decision sooner than the standard 14 days, so a decision can be made prior to the final. They need to know whether they are kicking them out ASAP so that they know whether Boro get a free-pass to the final.

The stress of the decision, and cost of subsequent appeals, will be removed from them if Boro knock them out, of course. Just as it was with West Brom avoiding the drop by more than the points deduction.

Going off topic (hey, it's Yellows Forum), the West Brom points deduction fiasco now means they have effectively had no punishment.

The loss of points was not enough to send them down (I would even argue that the early speculation about points being deducted galvanised the team to get points on the board earlier that they might have done if they had actually fallen into the relegation zone) and there is, AFAIK, no financial penalties.

Rush was where the keeper can come out... Roman was where whoever was nearest at the time was the keeper.
