General Soft Drink / Non Alcoholic Beer Recommendations.

I love my real ales, if I have one pint I like another, but from time to time, ie when driving it’s not appropriate to drink alcohol. Plus for health reasons it wouldn’t do me any harm to cut down a bit.

At home I’m quite happy to drink water with a meal, but that’s not really appropriate when I’m in a pub or bar. So what non alcoholic soft drink would our learned forumites recommend as a half pint or full pint option?

In general I’m not a fan of low or non alcoholic beers, however I guess they’re improving? So would be interested to hear of any worth trying.

0% Guinness is really good. Koppaberg fruit cider is also ok as a refreshing summer alcohol free drink. Haven’t tried any of the Punk IPA type 0% versions.

My favourite summer drink has to be iced cold water though - stick a bottle in the freezer and get it out just before it turns to ice, gorgeous stuff!

I know a few people who say the 0% Guinness is one of the better non alcoholic’ beers. Must give it a try sometime.

Brewdog's alcohol free beers are generally pretty decent, and I agree the Guinness 0% is good, especially on draft although that's pretty rare. Asahi zero is a really good lager too.

0% Peroni aint bad. That's what I stuck to whole training for a half marathon earlier this year. Got straight back on the higher percentage stuff after that, and my stomach has definitely grown back much quicker than I'd expected.

I don't mind Heineken or Peroni 0%, they seem to be the ones in pubs along with Becks (small bottle so a bit of a rip off). They all taste much of muchness but if I drive to football its nice to stand with something that at least feels like an adult drink, plus apart from tea and water I don't really drink soft drinks so I am a bit limited for choice.

I've stopped the soft drinks in a bid to reduce the sugar/artificial sweeteners, so the 0% beer has become the default pub drink, for when I don't want a buzz.

I stopped soft drinks years ago now, had no more than a handful over the last decade when I haven’t had much choice, don’t miss them at all.

Had my first Guiness 0% the other day, tasted nice.

My only quibble is that they nearly all come in bottles so you finish them a bit quick, would be nice to be able to have a pint .

It is a bit of a wild west with alcohol free beers. Sometimes a s**t lager does an alright alcohol free version and a higher tier lager does absolute shite (The morretti one was particularly dreadful, I think. As was Corona). Best I've had are the 0% guinness and the Erdinger Weissbier that comes in a blue bottle.

There is a (not cheap) company called St Peters that do alcohol free beers and I can honestly say they're completely vile.

As for soft drinks... i mean they're all the same as they've always been and Vimto is the best.

The non alcoholic lagers don't actually taste much like their namesakes do they so you can't base it on whether you like the alcoholic version.

After paying £9.50 for a pint in the O2 last night thinking of just drinking from puddles anyway, maddest thing is people were throwing it at that price.

It probably wasn't the original contents of the plastic glasses that they were throwing...
