National News Sir Keir Starmer

Well you could argue we would be in a better place if it wasn't for the one who took our stadium, half-built another one to rent to us, and took us on a journey...

(no idea if he has billions, or is just a pauper millionaire to be fair...)

This is true and pretty much puts emphasis on the point.

Not all Millionaires/Billionaires are the same, but I guess if they are all to be tarred with this same brush, as tax avoiders and non-contributing thieves, our current journey is not going to end well.

He saw a business opportunity (gamble) and took it, which earned him a heap more cash.

Local businesses and others carried the pain. What was it 10p in the £1 or so?

And he`ll still be winning when we`ve moved and a bit of prime real estate is being built on.

"On Wednesday, Reeves named AstraZeneca as one of the "great companies" as she set out her plans to kickstart economic growth, saying she was "determined to make Britain the best place in the world to invest"

Friday............. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I wonder how long Reeves will last as Chancellor? I’m giving her until the end of March.

Everything she touches turns to ****.

I don't know the details, but AstraZeneca, a company that has made over $100bn in operating profits since 2006, over $8bn of which was last year alone, pull out of an investment deal because the Government refuses to give them what they want?

Growth and investment are of course important, but equally far too many big businesses have taken the P**s for too long. Maybe we need to be a little harder in our negotiations even if that means that we miss out on a few.

So Labour roll over and have their tummy tickled by the unions regarding pay deals, costing a huge sum to the tax payer, but suddenly play hard ball over a deal that would have contributed to growth and innovation in the UK.

Nothing like shooting yourself in the foot.

How someone can even begin to make excuses for such incompetence is beyond me.

The deal was done and Labour have fucked it up.

Sad.

Evidence of big businesses taking financial support from the government and then taking the P**s would be a start... by presumably not creating the jobs they said they would?

Look at the water companies making huge profits but failing to fix the infrastructure whilst dumping human waste into our rivers and seas.

Amazon and others doing what they can to avoid paying taxes in this country.

Sainsbury's and others making huge profits but looking to pass and NI increases on to consumers.

P&O ferries sacking people to exploit other workforces.

And now AstraZeneca making huge profits but looking to do a deal that benefits them more greater than they would otherwise be able to get.

Only the headline stuff, but I'm sure you can find numerous other examples where businesses have put profits before moral responsibilities. Growth and investment is of course important, but at what cost of we're going to allow businesses to act with impunity?

Fancy that successful businesses being ...........well..........successful.

Least your pension will be better for it, which is why HMG need to keep them onside... or not.

Water companies still using a victorian infrastructure should be nationalised but on private Ts & Cs.

Amazon employ 62k+ in the UK who all pay tax & NI - the global nature of the business is the "tax issue" and always will be.

Sainsburys employ 148k in the UK who all pay tax & NI - their profit margin should go back down the supply chain but doesn`t.

P&O ..... previously discussed on here.

AstraZeneca - its exactly what HMG should be investing in (high tech, innovative etc etc), the deal was done and somebody fecked it up.

Still if you are train driver, junior doctor etc just knock on the door of Number 11.

Bloody Amazon…. Let’s f**k them off too.

You can tell he works in the public sector, very easy to object to a business making money when you do.

Erm, so do I.

Its just that some understand that "profit" is not a dirty word, although the NHS call it surplus and departments are encouraged to generate them.

Now "stale" NHS managers think the way to do it is to spend under your budget by reducing spend, doesn`t work as your budget just gets reduced the next financial year traditionally causing a year end panic spend to use it up.

Sensible ones cost the service they provide, calculate a margin and generate "money on spreadsheets". :)

We provide a myriad of tests both internally and externally. If test "A" costs £1.80 to do then we bill internal departments £1.85 and external bodies £1.95.

When you do around 40k tests a week...............🤷‍♂️

9.3 million people in the UK between 16 and 64 are economically inactive, about 21% of that portion of the population. I know that their will be all sorts of reasons for that but considering that's where the vast majority of the workforce come from that seems an incredibly high number. Only 1.57 million of those claim unemployment benefit, so that's a huge number not in the workforce in any way for other reasons.
I was speaking to a friend that works in HR on Friday, her company advertised a night shift machine operator role and removed the advert after 2 days, 40 people had applied. Unemployment is going to be a big expensive issue.

Reeves is so far out of her depth its scary, maybe Starmer cant see it or maybe the alternatives are worse. Why dont they get someone that actually understands how real life works to run the economy rather than a wannabe?
