Championship Sheffield Wednesday

So the offence took place more than a year ago and the points deduction is next season, so they avoid relegation this year.
But Wigan's administration recently took place and suffer the points deduction last season and immediate relegation.

EFL consistently inconsistent

Given a 12 point deduction by the EFL for next season after financial misconduct.

The points deduction will keep Wycombe off the foot of the Championship for a while.

Wait for two more teams to fall foul of the rules and get points deducted. Then WW’s incredible streak of good fortune will carry on for another season.

And yes it is sour grapes...

Wycombe Wanderers will still get relegated, they will still finish bottom of the league, they will still have the lowest points tally of any championship team in history and in 5 years time they will be in their rightful place - back in non league..........!

The EFL really do make it up as they go along. I’m sure it’ll be the fault of the member clubs somehow.

Charlton Athletic should be given championship status, Sheffield Wednesday should be relegated imo. The Championship season hasn’t finished, so looks like the EFL have made another shocking decision.

There must be a nice little earner in there somewhere for the legal team working for Wigan and possibly Charlton as well. Barnsley may even join the party if Wigan get a reprieve. Probably rumble right on to start of next season for maximum chaos, confusion and uncertainty.

The financial interpretation of the sale of the ground and the points deduction seems to have totally overshadowed the real horror of this story.
Hillsborough, has been separated from Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. Who owns the ground? Probably someone on the other side of the world. The club and its supporters have lost control of the famous ground and SWFC will probably have to pay rent (circa £3M pa) to play there.

Why do the EFL have to complicate things Wigan got 12points deducted so get relegated start next season in league one but then the EFL go and chuck a spanner in the works and give Sheffield Wednesday the same punishment but they can stay in the championship but start next season on. -12 even tho this season hasn’t finished yet for the championship SO why didn’t they just relegate Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday with the same punishment

Can see Charlton having a dig at the unfairness with Sheffield Wednesday although I believe they have their own issues and could yet be kicked out of the league.

Relegate both Sheffield AND Charlton and make up the numbers by promoting a team that finished fourth or the one that lost in the playoff final....

But aren't Derby in the same boat? How would they relegate Sheffield this season but not Derby when that case is heard soon as well?
Actually, thinking about it, hitting both next season would be fairer as there would be no point penalising Derby this time round as they'd just drop a few places midtable which wouldn't harm them at all.

Also, from reading the report, is the problem with weds, not that they sold the ground, but that they included it in the wrong year's accounts?

That's correct. They included it in accounts before the sale was completed, in order to comply with FFP at the end of that particular 3-year cycle.
