Great game. I think extremely unlikely that tomorrow will come close, but Iโ€™m happy to be proven wrong.

Also increasingly unlikely that Jermaine Jenas will EVER say anything of substance.
I have to say that 99% of the pundits and commentators are driving me mad but old โ€˜JJโ€™ really stands out in a sea of mediocrity - absolutely no insight and has the amazing gift of after-sight.

On the commentary front, ITVโ€™s Sam Matterface has dragged the job down to a new low. Inane comments, โ€˜spontaneousโ€™ zingers that are obviously pre-prepared and canโ€™t bear silence - the worst combination. The combination of him and Lee Dixon lacks even the slightest chemistry.

Lineker is as smug and unfunny as ever, Richards the class clown and Rio Ferdinand not half the intellectual he thinks he is. Occasionally they are all shown up by an ex-player commenting in a second language.

I think weโ€™ve seen the winners of this competition tonight, Spain have been truly immense in this competition.
Just wondering what bid Pep might put in for Lamine Yamal
They clearly seem the best team and showed two sides of their game today.
I don't think we can say that they have been immense simply because the other sides we've seen have been so mediocre.

Agreed. The state itโ€™s in compared to 20 years ago is shocking.

Paul Dempsey and Steve Bower, I quite like. Beyond that, Iโ€™d rather accompany it with some good music nowadays rather than listen to commentary.

Agree.

Guy Mobray is the best commentator. Mark Pougatch is far superior to Lineker, I think the journalistic background helps, and in general the ITV pundits are better. Jermaine Jenas is particularly bland and awful.

It feels like the BBC has decided their target audience are 12 year olds and they present as such. Itโ€™s like the One Show has been moved to the MOTD studio.

Another problem is commentators normally on the radio like Mcoist having to continually "banter natter" is that they never shut up - often resort to mute audio or other internet audio

Was a pleasure to watch that Spain team last night. Pass and move with attacking intent, such a far cry from their previous sides who despite being successful were a chore to watch and spent half the game shithousing. Yamal looks a serious talent at 16, I hope he doesn't suffer from the same burnout that Pedri did in 2021. Rodri and Ruiz are the b*****s in that midfield, France had no idea what to do, their lineup with 3 DM's was pretty shambolic but I felt if they stopped those 2 they'd have half a chance.

It's hard to see anything but a Spanish trophy lift now, they're well drilled and can mix it up with some insane attacking flair which is as much as you need on the international stage, Netherlands wouldn't stand a chance against them, and we'd have to really slog it to remain in the game

Spain have the best wingers in the tournament, they've got Dani Olmo and Fabian Ruiz playing absolutely lights out in the middle, and have probably the best defensive midfielder in world football (honestly, if I was picking my world XI right now, I'm not sure that Rodri wouldn't be the first name on my team sheet.......)

Buuuuuut, I think their defense is only average. And I think a team that's willing to get at that defense with pace and creative movement would cause them serious problems.

So it's a bit of a shame that we've got a manager who's allergic to getting out of first gear.

Our lot will be home before Sunday unless they improve quite a lot tonight, so let's hope they at least use reverse and simply idling a little less tonight, never mind reaching the heady heights of second gear! ;)
