Taken long enough for the euros to ignite, great game this

Rodri is such a Rolls Royce. Dani Olmo is my player of the tournament. Yamal is an audacious talent. Neco Williams is rapid and skilful.

This is a very talented Spain side.

A bit of hope should England get through tomorrow - Spain are the walking wounded. There’s a fragility down their right and that could be exploited. Got to get there first though.

Glad France went out, they scored one goal from open play in 6 matches plus an extra time period, a good team with good players but need a manager who can get the most out of them. When Southgate brings it home maybe he can go across the channel and help them fulfil the potential they have.

Great game. I think extremely unlikely that tomorrow will come close, but I’m happy to be proven wrong.

Also increasingly unlikely that Jermaine Jenas will EVER say anything of substance.
I have to say that 99% of the pundits and commentators are driving me mad but old ‘JJ’ really stands out in a sea of mediocrity - absolutely no insight and has the amazing gift of after-sight.

On the commentary front, ITV’s Sam Matterface has dragged the job down to a new low. Inane comments, ‘spontaneous’ zingers that are obviously pre-prepared and can’t bear silence - the worst combination. The combination of him and Lee Dixon lacks even the slightest chemistry.

Lineker is as smug and unfunny as ever, Richards the class clown and Rio Ferdinand not half the intellectual he thinks he is. Occasionally they are all shown up by an ex-player commenting in a second language.

I think we’ve seen the winners of this competition tonight, Spain have been truly immense in this competition.
Just wondering what bid Pep might put in for Lamine Yamal

They clearly seem the best team and showed two sides of their game today.
I don't think we can say that they have been immense simply because the other sides we've seen have been so mediocre.

Agreed. The state it’s in compared to 20 years ago is shocking.

Paul Dempsey and Steve Bower, I quite like. Beyond that, I’d rather accompany it with some good music nowadays rather than listen to commentary.

In Oz on Optus we get the “world feed” and the commentary is equally inane. “If he wanted to score he needed to put that on target, but if he had the keeper might have saved it” kind of stuff.

Agree.

Guy Mobray is the best commentator. Mark Pougatch is far superior to Lineker, I think the journalistic background helps, and in general the ITV pundits are better. Jermaine Jenas is particularly bland and awful.

It feels like the BBC has decided their target audience are 12 year olds and they present as such. It’s like the One Show has been moved to the MOTD studio.

Another problem is commentators normally on the radio like Mcoist having to continually "banter natter" is that they never shut up - often resort to mute audio or other internet audio
