not the change I’d have wanted behind the scenes. I imagine a few will be happy with this, wonder if it also make MB’s position slightly weaker.

That’s the hope.

A new head of recruitment and new first team coach for a fresh rebuild can only be a positive

Our recruitment hasn't been great, in fact it's been a mess. Unsure why a change wouldn't be welcomed.
I would argue the damage to our championship squad building was done before he arrived, no doubt it’s improved under him. Also he and Bloomfield have proven they can work well together in the past. There’s far bigger issues at the club the our recruitment. Don’t get me wrong it could be better but nobody in recruitment gets it right all the time.

I need to know their name if so, worked absolute miracles.
The crap summer transfer window happened before Mitchell arrived, and last summer it started well until it appears that someone put a stop to it.

Doesn’t seem great timing for us unless we’ve already got someone lined up and ready to go.
He must be pretty highly rated to get a gig at Newcastle in the Prem.

You would think there will be a proper hand over, so any targets would remain.

Yes, unless Mitchell takes his list with him of course.

If Newcastle sign Fred Onyedinma, Junior Quitirna and Luke Leahy then we know we've been f*cked over.

Not really, the disastrous summer transfer window after we got promoted happened before he arrived, and last summer we were making some good signings until someone pulled the plug halfway through.

Perhaps that annoyed him, thought it was bit amateurish for a Championship club and decided to move on when the first decent opportunity arose?

Sometimes we can read between the lines. Maybe Ed will fancy that role vacated by SM?

More to the point have we had a transfer fee for him ? The beginning of the exodus, how bloody exciting head down boys and girls this transfer period is going to be breathtaking.

Quite worrying imo. It’s Newcastle who think he’s worth having, not Gateshead.

Concern for me would be the longevity we’re getting out of seemingly useless/costly/obnoxious individuals and yet people with good reps are coming and going.

Don’t think Mitchell was the problem at all. Look at the conditions of the 4 windows he had and the restriction on manager choice (assuming that was his remit also). The club’s disorganisation was bound to drive up the miss rate on signings but he managed some really good acquisitions in ridiculous circumstances.

I don’t think this is good news for us in the slightest.

Do Heads of Recruitment have agents? If so, he must have a world class one to land that job!
Why? It's very popular to blame the recruitment, usually Ed despite the fact that's not his job, but it's a tough job made harder by those above him. He could pretty easily point to the players signed under his watch and their current values, we'd easily make a profit.

If we hadn't torpedoed our summer window by stopping the spend after the excellent additions of Spencer and BDK (if sold should be easy profit on both) then we'd almost certainly look back a lot more favourably on the window and likely stayed up. It didn't go great after that but recruiting for a Championship team expected to go down and being told you've actually got to do it with free transfers after you've already planned for having a decent budget is an incredibly tough ask. When we loosened the purse strings in January we undoubtedly improved and I'd rather have seen some of the signings get more minutes, particularly McDonnell and Woo.

There will always be misses especially when you're trying to do it on the cheap and find value where you can but the blanket criticism he gets seems incredibly lazy to me. The fact that he's being poached by a Premier League team who spend big money despite us being relegated should be a bit of a hint that he knows what he's doing. He's a long way down the list of people I'd like to see leave and would be a big loss.

Do you think he wouldn't have taken the prem and saudi money if that hadn't happened? Its a big step up for a pay rise, I doubt he is turning down this opportunity whatever we did?
