Am I the only one not really fussed about losing Cadden? Sam Long's deliveries in last few games have been way better than Caddens have been for a long while. I'm more than happy with him starting for us, he deserves a proper chance for a long run in the team I feel

It was non league opposition today though. When there are less options or under pressure Long is limited in his abilities.

If we are serious about promotion we should get a better right back IMO

Long played very well against Man City and West Ham too! In fact, any examples of when his abilities have been limited because I can't think of a bad game he's had in the last 12 months or so.

My thoughts entirely. Long has improved immensely, and he is a great asset. A great player to have on the bench as can cover a number of positions. If we are going for promotion, then we do need someone with a more attacking prowess. A more than adequate back up but we should be aiming for higher as our starting RB.

Long & Ruffels are both good L1 full backs BUT that’s their level & unlike Cadden I don’t see them having a ceiling to be better at Championship level.

They’re good, and good enough for the next 6 months but if we was to go up, we’d 100% look at new full backs IMO

I'm sure plenty said the same when Ruffels first started playing at left back, but look how that turned out!

Sam Long has performed admirably when called upon this season, and deserves his chance to make the position his own

Not good enough to start - he got the wrong side of his marker again and almost gave the penalty away. Fantastic in the squad, but if we want to push on we need better

Sam Long is certainly good enough to start for us. He has come on leaps and bounds without consistent game time.

I like Cadden a lot but feel similar to the OP that I’m not as gutted as I thought I would be at him leaving with Long’s form this season. He is adding to his game, bursting forward more, linking up well and getting crosses in. Nothing I have seen this season tells me he isn’t good enough to start or improve enough to play in The Championship should we get there.

How do you almost give a penalty away? He had a great second half, but he’s come up through the ranks so he can’t be that good, he is doing a great job for Oxford just like ruffles , I’d love a bigger club to come in for the pair of them an see what a shitstorm it would cause

Long along with Sykes were two of our better players today over the 90 minutes....both put in a shift, got stuck in when needed & both played well ....shame Long got booked late on, presumably for dissent?

Long certainly wasn't our worst player today, but he really does lack quality on the ball. Not just with his crossing (Cadden wasn't much better) but his first - and often second - touch is so frequently a tackle, and he lacks composure. He's a great backup/squad player and seems like an excellent person to have around the team in terms of his work ethic, but he's not good enough as a first choice if we want to be targeting the automatics.

I'm glad at least one other person watches the same match as me.
