Yes, that’s a much more sensible and reasonable question to be asking. Putin holds no threat for a land invasion of any NATO country right now, the debacle in Ukraine has made that abundantly clear. In ten years time - who knows?

Hopefully long before then he will be dead or languishing in prison somewhere.

I think it’s just the “ we should put our troops in” bit. There’s a lot behind that 6 words. A lot of British death (and expense) on foreign soil. Ukraine is one of those slogs of a war and it could be like “putting our troops” into the Somme to try and end wwi quickly.

Thing is, if Trump leaves NATO it's probably a dead duck. We'd have to go in with Germany, France, and other countries of that continent to form a defence union, not sure what we'd call the organization.

They lack training, cohesive command and rely on numbers - much like the tactics of WW1. They do have far greater numbers, of course. They also have a lot of tactical nuclear weapons and, it is conjectured, far fewer qualms about deploying.
Add in cyber warfare (already happening) and it would get very nasty, very quickly. It would need us to fight just as incisively.

I do wonder if our politicians feel it'll never happen so there's no point in preparing or having contingency plans. Just like when a global pandemic wasn't going to happen...
