At the same time though? I can’t remember us ever having such rotten luck at the start of a season. Atkinson, Long, Gorrin and then Brannagan, shortly after. That is basically the spine of the team, all out at the same time! I get what you mean by having cover, but you’d do well to have two players of that quality in each position.
Don't forget mousinho was out almost from Day one as well, which reduced our ability to rotate/cover across the back

The only thing bigger about Peterborough is their rolls of the dice on players.

They have been, for some time now. much more willing to play a larger game of risk and reward, particularly on strikers.

An yet after we lost Dickie and it was mentioned that Mous was not really going to be used heavily if at all this season we did not sign a centreback until January. A great example of a couple of injuries highlighting a weakness in the squad.

Yep. Ultimately if you look at it our summer business was bloody dreadful.

Early season signings (and my debatable ratings):

Matty Taylor - Excellent
Marcus McGuane - Great
Olamide Shodipo - Good
Derick Osei Yaw - For the future hopefully
Dylan Asonganyi - For the future hopefully
Liam Kelly - Okish
Jordan Obita - Ok then gone
Sam Winnall - Not a hit
Joel Cooper - Not a hit
Sean Clare - Not a hit (as a defender could be a good midfielder)

The summer business was a bit more miss than hit, with few signings improving the strength of the first team or adding squad players that push for starting place. Thankfully Barker and Lee have been better signings.

Whats noticeable here is that only Obita was a proper defender (and not a center back). Plus due to the failure of Grayson we remain weak for defensive cover (until hopefully McNally is ready).

We have two excellent centre backs, and two capable full backs. We have no good cover for any of them. Surely KR can’t make the same mistakes again? Can he?

Another 3 years, at least, of his contract to run says he can do pretty much whatever he likes.

They signed McNally as the cover for the centre-backs. We have no idea if he is good cover or not but he is a signing based on potential just like Rob Dickie was, just like Rob Atkinson was.

Peterborough spent £2m on players this season.
So they had a huge advantage (due to the Toney windfall)
They do seem to make decent money on their sales, and they’re more or less similar in size and revenue from outside transfer sales

No offence mate but after some of the absolute ass you were talking during the window, you can’t really say much. You wanted us to sign players from the teams that are now in the relegation zone 😅

Taylor, Maguane and Shodipo were great signings, so I’ll shrug off some of the punts we took. Our January business, more than made up for those!

if you really believe that signing a striker, a midfielder and a winger affords us good defensive cover then it's a good job you are not the manager.

Exactly this, you could say we were 'unlucky with injuries', but if you're starting the season with Long as the cover for RB and LB, whilst also being our fourth choice CB, then two injuries in defence completely knackers us. It shouldn't work like that.

Defensive cover we didn’t even know that we needed until Long and Atkinson got injured? Without those injuries, this wouldn’t even be a conversation.

Yes we did. Mousinho was known to be at the very end of his playing career, and Clare had never played fb before. Long was the only backup defender, and one of only 4 defenders we could consider playing after Mousinho ended his season after one or two games.

It was a mess waiting to happen and, predictably, it did. Cue the relegation flirt.

A relegation flirt in the first few months of the season??
