Anyone heard anything ref his injury, we could certainly do with him back?

Having a scan on his back on Monday. KR did not sound too positive regarding good news re Holmes. Mackie could have a back problem as well. Real shame about Shandon B as he would have been a major influence on the rest of the season, just hope the injury is not career threatening. As for Carruthers who knows.

Hasn’t Carruthers been in training?

Mackie's contract is based on various incentives rather than a high weekly salary. So if he doesn't play, he doesn't earn as much

Re Mackie: I still haven't quite worked out the logic that a wide player who has lost his pace is suddenly a central striker. 15 goals in his last 131 games before he joined us made that unlikely for me and others (it was said at the time) - and it has proved to be the case. I am really not sure why Robinson signed him.

As for Holmes: I'm sorry, but we aren't some kind of benevolent convalescent home for other clubs ageing knackered players. Obviously a talent, but not in his current state. Even if we get him 'fit' (which is a relative term in this case!) how long does anyone expect him to last?

If (as I suspect) we end up going down, I would rather do so having developed our own players into first teamers so we can hit the ground running next season rather than have given a few testimonial games to other club's old players. And you can add Carruthers to the list unless the medicos say he can come back virtually immediately and makes a huge difference when he does so.

Agree ^^ all the way with that. Although people will say it’s the wrong time to play these young lads, for me, now is the time to blood them. They’ll add legs and also they are flying confidence wise. Physically they won’t be out of place as they can handle themselves and are far from small!

Mackies contract rewards him for the number of steps he makes in a match.
To enable him to meet the target, he wears a special Fitbit on his left hand.
You must have all noticed the most consistent body movement he makes in every game,he can regularly be seen raising his stretched out arms palms skywards—that’s to check
the he has reached the target and not to protest a decision.

I don't think that's possible. If I remember correctly from earlier, there's a fairly complex 'rule' regarding naming at least 10 of the outfield players from our last match day squad in this one.
The most bollox rule ever, if prem teams can use this competition to give young players game time then why can't we?

I don't think the rules are quite as rigid as previous years as you only need four players to meet their requirements now. From Wiki via the EFL website, the rules are:

For EFL Clubs
  • Minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player will be one who meets any of the following requirements:
    • Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture
    • Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club, who have made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions that season
    • Any player with 40 or more first-team appearances in their career
    • Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club.
  • A club can play any eligible goalkeeper in the competition
So, for us it's pretty easy to make those requirements and play a number of youth teamers.

Can u23s out on loan to non league clubs be recalled for checkatrade matches? ....probably not, but the way the 'rules' change on an ongoing basis during the competition, who knows (shaun harvey excepted)?

Allowing spurs u21s to reschedule last month did OUFC no favours it certainly was a contributory factor to fatigue in the small first team squad.

He is not ready for the 1st eleven.
Ran out of legs at home.

Really? Dunno about that. Even if so, I’d happily he be on the bench along with selected others from the ‘18’s 23’s than having to resort to bringing on a 3rd choice Rb for the last 10 mins when chasing a goal.
