National Politics 🔴 The Labour Party

Not much of a shock...........

"The referral was rejected by a margin of 335 to 223, despite a string of Sir Keir's own back benchers urging him to agree for the sake of transparency."

Probably closer than several would have expected...

I wonder how PMQs will go today, as I’m sure there will be a number of Labour MPs questioning why an enquiry shouldn’t be held.
Nothing like a cover up with a three line whip to suppress the naughty Labour MPs who dare to stand up to Starmer.
Not too long before we find out how the Labour Party have fared at the local elections in the light of the fallout.

I’m leaving the country very early next Thursday before the polling stations open. Only temporarily, unfortunately.

(As it happens, there are no local elections where we live.)

Funnily enough I’m away over that period too. I know the LDs will win our area as they always do.

I’m hoping that’ll be the same in those parts of Cambridgeshire where elections are being held.

Well Badenoch stuffed that one (as she does most). Positively Oxford striker-esque in front of an open goal.
Poor in terms of following up the Mandelson thing, then came up with the random statement that “There are 1.5 million more people out of work”. Which is, to be frank, a lie. There are 1.5m more people on Universal Credit yes, but that is the transfer of people from other types of benefit to universal credit, a policy and timetable set by the Tories.

Starmer may be an idiot robot, but even a cabbage would be a better opposition leader.

I don’t vote anymore , each and everyone of them are out for themselves!

The biggest part of the welfare budget is the state pension:

"Social security spending in Great Britain

In 2025 to 2026 the government is forecast to spend £322.6 billion on the social security system in Great Britain. Total GB welfare spending is forecast to be 10.6% of GDP and 23.6% of the total amount the government spends in 2025 to 2026.

Around 55% of social security expenditure goes to pensioners; in 2025-26 we will spend £177.7 billion on benefits for pensioners in GB. This includes spending on the State Pension which is forecast to be £146.1 billion in 2025 to 2026.

In 2025 to 2026 we will spend £145.0 billion on working age and children welfare. This includes spending on Universal Credit and its predecessors, and non-DWP welfare spending.

In 2025 to 2026 we will spend £77.1 billion on benefits to support disabled people and people with health conditions, and £37.3 billion on housing benefits."

It isn't going to be that much of the welfare budget considering irregular immigration was 46k for the year ending December 2025. There were 101k asylum claims in the same year in total.

In the previous year, of 135k asylum claims given initial decisions 42% (previous year 47%) were granted.

As of Dec '25, 107k were in receipt of the above Asylum support.

Not sure that is anywhere near a lot of the welfare budget as you've suggested.
Scary ,if we were a business we would be closed down ,and this is where the political classes have sold decent working people down the river .But it's interesting about the pension they have paid into get it and Tony Blair this week said it should stop it's alright for him he started most of this and rakes in over £160 million a year for his input, it should be closed down.

I think the problem is they haven't paid the amount in they get out as people live longer. I don't want to take anyone's pension away, not into killing old people, but it obviously can't carry on as is forever.

It is also the level of increase each year which is greater than other benefits.

I've posted this before - but when the state pension was first initiated in 1948, the average life expectancy in Britain was......65. So your bloke in the middle of the distribution would be dying the year he qualified for a pension.

Now the average life expectancy in Britain is 82......and we're wondering why the maths doesn't work any more?!?

See also the difference in fertility rates between 1948 and 2026 - fewer people to pay for those pensions.

The actual best thing we could do is stop all state pensions and elderly care, force community care and multi-generational households, and funnel literally all of that money into incentivising young people have families and helping them into homes.

Yes that's cruel on the elderly, and some of them will be miserable and it'll be undignified, but caring for the boomer generation is literally going to end our entire society if the fertility rate stays at 1.4 or whatever it is now.

But who really wants to kill Nan and grandad? That’s the thing, that will never be voted in, so while we are a democracy with the demographics we currently have then it will carry on.

At the current rate of immigration though you wonder if the new “Britons” will be happy to pay for people who are not their grandparents, meaning those bought into wipe aged arses will be the ones to stop it.

You will be a pensioner at some point .Heartless c**t.

Absolutely, the social contract disappears when you replace one group of people with another. I don't want to help them, and I expect many of them don't want to help me either!

The comfort of boomers today will result in untold pain for future generations. When the demographic decline passes a tipping point, it's game over.

Boomers need to disappear as soon as possible really, or we're all doomed.
Look at you two arguing about who's going to have what scraps without even questioning why this is happening in a world of off shore wealth, venture capitalism, private equity. It would be funny if it wasn't.

Good luck running on that pitch @Basham Wonderland!

I do happen to agree with you to a point though, the gold plated triple lock pension is grossly unfair on young people. Someone will be along in a minute to tell me "well I paid in all my life", well yes, you did, but nobody promised a triple lock when you started paying into it.

But nothing will change, I am planning for the fact that I won't get a state pension, the money will have long dried up by then.

If you think the triple lock state pension is "gold plated" then you don`t want to know about NHS Final Salary pensions for those who held tight and stayed in the pre-1995 scheme and then climbed the slippery slope a bit. :) :) :)

It's gold plated compared to what it would have been without it. Pensioners outpacing workers is not sustainable.

Yeah it's obviously never going to happen.

However, it kind of has to happen. It's not just the triple lock either - the demographic cliff edge is approaching across all developed countries. South Korea has already passed it, their country is basically going to disappear in the 2100s. The elderly people of late 2000s South Korea are going to live in poverty and misery because of the boomers of today.

The data is clear - the reason we're facing the cliff edge is because we're spending too much on social benefits for the elderly. if we don't turn it around dramatically, then we too will face the bleak reality facing South Korea.

We aren't going to redirect the support we give boomers now to focus on young people and young families, and the basic result of that is that future generations will suffer hugely.

Honestly, if you fancy some misery about what's coming, look up demographic cliff edge. It's happening everywhere and nobody is talking about it.

Starmer has completely ruined a major 126 year old political party in less than 2 years.

Became the most hated UK Prime Minister in history.

Unilaterally gave away billions of £'s of taxpayers money with no accountability required from the recipients.

Wrecked the economy.

Failed to control mass immigration, both legal and illegal.

Failed to address the problem of muslim rape gangs.

Increased welfare payments to a point where benefits now cost more than the entire income tax take.

Allowed weekly pro-Palestinian hate marches on our streets.

Consistently referred to people with concerns about the proliferation of migrant violence as "Far Right".

Promoted one of his friends to high office despite knowing he was a buddy of one of the most prolific paedophiles on the planet.

Consistently worked to reverse the result of the biggest democratic vote in British history by stealth.

Placed tax dodgers, fraudsters and CV fantasists in Ministerial posts.

Invited a known islamist terrorist to No.10 while simultaneously banning foreign commentators from the UK for merely reporting on the border fiasco.

Took two weeks to find a Royal Navy ship that actually worked.

Introduced legislation that will destroy the private rental market and create hundreds of thousands of homeless families.

Promised to build 1.5 million homes in five years despite everyone telling him it would be impossible.

Failed to help motorists and hauliers after the rise in the price of fuel caused by the war in Iran.

Continues to allow Ed Milliband to wreck the UK's energy industry with his insane Net Zero policies.

Raised the minimum wage and employers National Insurance contributions leading to thousands of job losses and businesses folding.

Introduced VAT to private school fees leading to many excellent seats of learning closing their doors.

Consistently refused to answer questions during the session in the parliamentary week set aside for this specific purpose.

Consistently failed to accept responsibility for any wrong doing, preferring to sack others instead.

Alienated "working people" while claiming to be on their side.

And the lies. The constant lies.

Failure. Failure. And more Failure.

Time for him and Labour to go 💩
