National Politics πŸ”΄ The Labour Party

Lazily blaming things on labour just like people lazily blame things on Brexit!
Nothing lazy about blaming Brexit as a one off event when the numbers speak for themselves πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Nothing wrong with blaming BOTH governments for prisoners getting released by mistake.

However, the point is that certain people are only getting frothy and hysterical about it now. The hypocrisy is amusing at best.

The other point is the reason why the prison service has got into this mess and who ultimately is responsible for that mess.

I guess it’s partly fuelled by the frustration that after years of Labour criticising Conservatives for doing everything wrong, people hoped Labour would do the things they promised in opposition and put the wrongs of the past 14 years right.

Still early days, but boy oh boy they are doing their very best to continue to fcuk things right up.

It would help if we even saw a smidgen of policies improving things and an ounce of competence. Instead we are 10 games in, stuck in the relegation zone with only 5 points out of a possible 30.

Going Down.

Take a step back.

You are both criticising Labour for not putting right 14 years of deliberate, debilitating, deep underfunding of the prison service in just over a year AND don't want Labour to raise the money needed to correct this and all the other problems (potholes, NHS waiting lists, crumbling schools, dental deserts, etc) caused by the Tory underfunding. It's almost as if you can't hold more than one thought in your head at any time..... immigration, immigration, immigration.....

Oh I don't disagree.

Labour have effectively entered a burning building and are currently trying to put it out.... by blowing on the flames....

It'll take a bit more than that and could actually risk making it worse!

It's the faux indignation that really amuses me...

All of a sudden ALL of this, including who caused the fire in the first place, is down to them. The cognitive dissonance is a sight to behold!

Like all these news stories, the only reason it has gained traction is because of how high profile the cock up was a few weeks ago.

Always seems to be the case that suddenly an issue that has always been bubbling along becomes a monumental political hot potato.

Again, I will just take some issue with the Labour stance about this is what they inherited. Yes, it was/is a truly shocking state of affairs, but in the past year these errors have more than doubled.

Just not good enough if we are to believe things are on course to improve.

It's become an issue because of the narrative the media wish to push. The issue has clearly been there for quite a while and the appalling state of public services after years of neglect means that the problem will very likely get worse before it improves, as we're seeing.

It's also become an issue because...
No boat crossing for 10 days straight (due to weather, apparently).
Net migration figures are considerably down from their 1m+ peak in 23/24.
They're still reeling from not landing a fatal blow on Reeves over her rental licence "shocker"

Meanwhile, in other news... and another case of whataboutery...it emerges that the scam PPE company linked to Baroness Mone, not only owes us Β£150million, but also has an unpaid tax bill of Β£39million.

Balance, context and proportionality are sorely lacking it would seem.

I also read that the company having been placed in administration is subject to a Β£1m charge over assets from a company based in IoM, which is errrr, linked to Barrowman.

Couldn't make this s**t up.

And was put into admin 1 day before the court judgement re whether the claim was valid. It certainly appears to have been very deliberately timed so the court couldn't take action.

It certainly sounds that way. It’s not too dissimilar to the news on the prisoners being released at the end of PMQs
Apparently just reading one of the prisoners has handed himself in

There are hundreds of mistakes made in releases a year now, direct link in increase in errors to austerity cuts (I did post exact figures somewhere else). It is just political opportunism at the moment to raise the issue and blame current minister.

Of course they could have had 14 years to plan how to put the fire out AND a whole legion of firefighters in the form of a large majority.

Instead we have a front bench of petrol station attendants with leaky hoses. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Shame your arsonists made such a mess to begin with, otherwise we wouldn't be here πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Tackling a blaze the size of the one your lot allowed to get so out of control will take an awful lot of time and resource before anything can be salvaged and rebuilt.

I'd be surprised if going to be handing the Tories a box of matches any time soon, you'll only torch it again. Seems even odder that some are contemplating letting Nige in with his flamethrower:) Some people just don't deserve nice stuff.

Planning ?
Remind me how many Prime Ministers, Cabinet reshuffle’s we had in that 14 year period .
Similarly Labour did not have 14 years of a meaningful representation or continuity in Parliament .

Didn`t take long............... 8 working days.

Tick tock for the toolmaker?
I still find it incredible Starmer likes to tell people his father was a toolmaker like it wasn't the most fuΒ©kΓ―ng obvious thing in the world!

What annoys me most about SKS is his awful inability to communicate or display any character or passion.

You would think a QC/KC would be some sort of "performer" .

Bloke is duller, colder and greyer than yesterdays bath water. :)

Still he's on a jolly with Bacon Ed in Brazil telling us all to watch our carbon footprint. :ROFLMAO:

Figures show 262 prisoners were released in error during the 12 months ending in March 2025, a 128% increase on the previous year.

Not sure how that is linked to austerity cuts.

They have been increasing in number every year since the main prison service cuts.
