National Politics 🔴 The Labour Party

Both Starmer and Reeves are going to be torn to shreds over comments they made last month when they both were asked about tax and VAT cuts and both answered they would follow their manifesto.

Page 21 of the the Labour manifesto

“ We will ensure taxes of working people are kept as low as possible, Labour will not increase taxes on working people which is why we will not increase national insurance the basic higher or additional rates of income tax or VAT. “

Dug yourself bit of a hole Rachel…..

Can’t see an election before 2029. Nigel Farage obviously would like one sooner.
The fact is that Starmer has a huge majority. I can’t think of any government with a big majority being forced out. Harold Wilson managed to go four years in 1966.
Let’s face it why would Starmer call an election if the polls show reform would win?

She also said last years supposed black hole of £22billion was filled and she wouldn’t ask for more….yet her she is again…please sir I want some more.
The debt of £2.6Trillion increased by £500billion because of Covid and more also because of Ukraine…is that the Tories fault too?
And still she brings up Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwartenge

Just listened to RR statement, so 18 months and they still haven’t realised or understood what happens in Government, 18 months and it’s still the last Government so no doubt in 2029 they will say the same thing “ it was the last Government “ she is absolutely useless and yet there are those who seem to be kissing labours feet…I wonder how many will do that at the next election. They had a 22 billion black hole inherited but it’s 50 million now.
So the best thing for her is to resign she is nothing more than a pen pusher who thinks she can lauded it above everyone else

I have no issue if RR wants to blame conservatives for poor investment and decision making over their tenure.

But what really annoyed me in her speech this morning was the blatant lie referencing high inflation and interest rates under the Conservative government that Labour are now taking control of.

I think she forgot to point out that inflation was at 2% when Labour came into power and for the significant part of Conservatives tenure interest rates were below 1%.

Many external factors (not just silly Truss) contributed to the huge blip toward the end, that was coming back under control.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but the only place I've seen that income tax will rise is in the Daily Telegraph, which these days is getting almost as bad GB News!

She's already ruled out a wealth tax, which is disappointing, but not surprising.

And she is absolutely right to bring up Liz Truss, because the Tories voted her as Prime minister. Also, she is also right to blame the Tories for the Brexit mess they inherited. This cannot be understated in the damage this has done to the economy. Labour didn't want Brexit, so they can be forgiven for saying "Well, I told you so".

Obviously you don’t read Many papers
nor listen to the various news outlets.
If she does then she has to resign for going against the Labour manifesto

Yes, we will just have to wait and see.

Personally, I think all the doom and gloom on tax rises is partially being planted so that when(if) they do come, we actually think it was not as bad as expected.

But, she's ruled out wealth tax and will not be drawn on income tax increases..... hmmm.

As a life long supporter of the Labour Party i will not support them anymore. The Conservatives gave us what , debt which Labour admittedly inherited, they also won the vote over brexit , we had to pay billions to step away from , you voted for it I didn’t! Farage , well don’t like the man or his party and that idiot leading the Lib Dem’s and really the Greens, not many people vote for them although they have some very good points especially blocking the M25 which is a car park anyway. Anyway one thing is for sure , the rich get richer and the poor get poorer !

I`m waiting for our left leaning contributors to say what a wonderful job Labour are doing after 14 years of preparing their plan and the promise of #change

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

For me the jury is still out with Labour. They've been in charge for 15 months, and it will take time, and for now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. To be fair to Starmer and Reeves, part of the remit of being a world leader is you have to make unpopular decisions, make the odd U-turn, and although not great - tell the odd lie - otherwise nobody would get into number 10! They have a lot of work to do, and it's normal for any administration to get the crappy stuff out the way, then throw a few goodies to the public and raise their profile as soon as election time draws near.

Although ask me the same question again in 2-3 years and if things haven't improved, then I will be far less sympathetic.

This is how stupid Reeves is , a notability car is paid for with the allowance you get from the Government. If you want a top of the range luxury car you have to pay an advance payment which the client has to pay out of his own pocket not a Government payout . The savings to scrap the luxury cars will not give the Government one bit of savings ! Reeves is a liar , Starmer needs to grow a pair and send all boat asylum back to their own country on the grounds that it’s a threat to our security as most have no past records . They are also working and nobody is doing anything about it , we are not Great Britain anymore as the great has disappeared from history, and b*****s to you if u r a do gooder !

Listening to the radio earlier they were saying what SKS is failing at is the "how, what & why" and telling that story to the public.

It is something Trump (love or hate him) excels at. He tells folk why they are doing it, how they are doing it and what they are doing....... and he`s relentless about pushing his messages.

If Reeves is the first chancellor to raise the basic rate in 50 years then folk will hold that in their memory for a long time.

If she raises Basic rate AND increases thresholds then people will forget quicker.

More tax rises = Better public services.

The problem with Tory/Reform is they are so overly obsessed with low taxes (especially for the rich), that they are prepared to let public services completely deteriorate - schools falling apart, can't get a doctors appointment, sh*t in the rivers, and an issue you complained about in an earlier post - an increase in crime on our streets, lack of police officers and justice. You can't have it both ways.

FTSE looks in pretty rude health to me 🤷‍♂️

If of course that is what you are using to measure the health of an economy.

Oh and bond yields are down by 3.5 points too.

Happy with that.

Money making money.

But of course, probably not helping the average "working person" banging in 60 hours per week.

I assume we are all agreed then, that when it next has a correction or crashes, it will unquestionably be the fault of Labour

I see Lammy in for PMQ praises the efforts of servicemen.
Shame he forgets to wear a poppy in the chamber

Now he’s found his poppy

And? As far as I'm concerned Lammy is more of a patriot the Nigel Farage. Quite a few have decided to not where the poppy and the usual right-wing media get their knickers in a twist over it - Charlene White from Loose Women, Katie McCabe from Arsenal WFC and the one we're all quite familiar with - James McLean (now at Wrexham). But whether you with it or not, that is their democratic right - and it's nobody's business but theirs.

I suspect a large number of those who are getting in a hissy-fit over it, are also the same hypocritical bell-ends who boo footballers when taking the knee, and get triggered when players wear a rainbow armband. Keep politics out of football? Yeah, but only the politics I don't agree with.

The poppy is a symbol of remembrance in football, hardly a 'political' statement is it?

Not like taking the knee for a campaign which openly called to defund the police and impose marxism. I've never heard anyone in this country say they care about rainbow armbands, although I imagine there are a few fringe people.

That’s fare enough about the state of the he NHS the rivers crime and so forth and yes a tax increase should help albeit 2 pence ( that is being mooted ) but why lie? Why didn’t she say that earlier “ we’re going to have to increase tax to help irrespective of the 50 billion pound black hole it was only 22 billion of which her government contributed 13 million towards. 6/7 times she mentioned the previous government are Labour that thick that they didn’t know what they knew now?
Their manifesto on page 21 says there will be no tax or vat rises. Lies, lies and more lies.
When the budget is over and done will she resign?

No wonder Lammy didn’t answer the question about foreign prisoners mistakenly released and threw a hissy fit.
Another one has been released by Wandsworth.
Why didn’t Lammy get prosecuted for having no fishing rod licence recently when he recently went fishing with the USA vice president? Anyone else gets hit with a big fine
