National Politics 🔴 The Labour Party

Inflation is fairly high but I think if £200,000 a year becomes a normal wage in a fairly short time the country has much bigger problems.
Fair enough. It’s not necessarily about it being a normal wage, but depending where you are on the curve, small changes can make a difference. However, looking at the ONS data it is a long tail distribution which means that a 200k bracket would take about 140% inflation before it started to hit notable numbers of households.

If we get 140% inflation I will be eating grass to survive so hopefully that doesn't happen.

On that logic it's fair to say that one day (fairly soon) Rodney we'll all be millionaires!'

I went on holiday to Greece when they had the Drachma, less of a buzz to having thousands in your pocket when it only buys you a pint and a packet of crisps.

Is Trump playing mind games? Suggesting Starmer is happy with tariff deal. Starmer considering retaliation, meanwhile shares go in free fall

I’m afraid to look at my pension pot .
I should have taken the annuity in January.
Damn

To be fair to SKS he seems to be handling it well, same as you would in life, sit down have a cup of tea and look at the options.

10% is way down the list of countries, including the EU bloc, so let the dust settle and see what happens.

Negotiating a trade deal with Trump?
That’s gone great too. Well at least Trump thinks so

Mine is likely to stay invested and i will go into drawdown. i am perrenially pesimistic about my health and dont want to be tied into the stock market being good before i crystalse my pension and buy an annuity.

If you are that close to retirement hopefully you have spent the past 5 years or so de-risking, so slightly less turbulence in your funds.

I see annuity rates are at their highest since 2008 but I honestly didn’t think they were that popular anymore 🤷‍♂️.

Draw down offers so much more flexibility.

My shares took a bashing this week. Perhaps I should have listened to my brother and sold. L and G have been good to me and I am due to receive a dividend of £700:in May. Ah well, at least that dividend will now buy more shares. Hopefully the Dow recovers tomorrow or Tuesday and that follows on to the FTSE

I can't see there is an argument not to joint the single market and customs union now. Leaving them wasn't on the ballot paper so no constitutional issues. Get on with it Starmer.

These tariffs may be a bargaining tool. I don’t think Starmer will jump in and make any irrational decisions. I think there is a good case for us getting together with the rest of the world including China and showing that we want free trade. If the USA doesn’t want to trade openly then it might just have to suffer the consequences. Anyone notice Trump didn’t announce any tariffs on Russia?

Drawdown offers more flexibility that is true. I looked at my drawdown fund and was astonished to see its lost 12% of its value in a week.

Wow,

Once Trump sorts a tranche of tariff deals out it will come back, although I suspect it will be a lot slower, as is always the case.

USA not currently trading with Russia ( officially) - so no trade imbalance ?
