National Politics šŸ”“ The Labour Party

RR better known as Rachel from accounts is not fit to be in charge of Britains accounts rob the poor as they don’t matter, rob the disabled as they don’t matter, along with her boss suck up to the Yankee Doodle dandy’s whereas most other European countries have hit back but we don’t, imagine if we were still in the European Union and did that.

The country spends too much as it is. The economy is toast. There had to be cuts to enable defence spending. Government borrowing is now well up above Liz Truss levels.

All that borrowing must have happened in the last year……….

I’m confused @Essexyellows should we borrow more or not seems like you can’t make up your mind

You know its just numbers on spreadsheets............... ;)

That aside HMG need to make people "feel better off" to spend money, to increase tax revenue etc etc.

The dull drag of Labours political errors, the flatlining economy etc is not going to create that feel good factor.

If that means "borrowing" then do so........as long as it is spent for the benefit of the working UK taxpayer.

As for spending it.......the UK has committed around Ā£13 billion to Ukraine........... and has still imported Ā£500 million of "stuff" from Russia......make that make sense to anyone... šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

PS: I read the post, I`ve turned the tag thing off.

Those last lot were a diabolical mess. Though. They weren't conservatives really at all theywerebarely right leaning just full of soundbites.

We shouldn’t have to worry about the supremely competent Rachel. She has a fully costed plan and won’t need to ask for more…oh she has and she blames world events..bit like Ted Heath when he blamed world forces. Reeves is taking incompetence to another level almost catching those running government in the early seventies.
How long she’s got is not known but I suspect Darren Jones her understudy is waiting in the wings. I think he is the only one that hasn’t called Trump names

More tax rises coming in the Autumn statement …..

I always find it odd that world events are now the cause…. Yet the economic impact of the Ukraine war and Covid were all the fault of the Conservatives.

Always easy to criticise when in opposition.

I would be surprised if we don’t have a new chancellor by Autumn.

The struggles for the less well off and the average working family are just going to get worse.

Labour looking after the more well off though…. who would have thought.

I think they’ll be up for robbing the pensioners again as they will easy pickings.
The liberals with Daisy last night on QT want to impose tariffs on TESLA imports. I wonder how that relates to their green policies.
They’re for spending big, just like Labour were in opposition

Autumn- Think they should bring in a further tax band for those earning over £200k .
That shouldn’t affect the working class they are so keen to protect .

I think people need to get over this myth that electric cars are good for the environment.

They’re definitely not good for the environment. The amount of child labour involved in the manufacture of those heavy beasts is not desirable either. The damage to the roads in the form of pot holes can no doubt be attributed to electric cars

Really? Been reading resources sector propaganda.

That has certainly been an issue, and one that needs fixing. Not just with batteries, mind. Hope you’re not keen on using any electronic devices if you’re worried.

While heavy electric cars are defiiitely an issue, the cause of potholes is abysmal road maintenance. It has been a major problem in the uk for decades, and well before evs came along. I remember the cogges-Stanton harcourt road being declared a failed road at the same time as many other roads in Oxfordshire 20 years ago. Meanwhile in WA we have excellent road maintenance and despite substantial Ev uptake (along with most non-Ev households having one of those petrol monster trucks) we don’t have potholes.

One presumes that you have far less concentrated traffic than this fine isle? I wonder of Aus has anything akin to B roads carrying multiple times the traffic they were ever designed for?

Soon find out........

That was kind of my point though. It’s facile to blame Evs for Britain's roads when they’ve been in a disgraceful state for decades.

If you come to Perth give us a shout.

Would happily but sadly not, 2 weeks on the Gold Coast. Probably take a week to drive to Perth! šŸ˜‚

What do you suggest the additional rate of tax should be on earnings over £200k pa?

Its already 45% over £125k ............................

We are back to the men in the pub scenario.

HMG need to go for the big boys who "mitigate their tax liability"............ but HMG can`t do that because the very wealthy are quicker, shrewder and employ better people than the government.

I never had tax planning in mind .
I pitched it at over 200k as that would exclude very many normal, everyday families living in the South East who have to pay massive housing and childcare costs.
I do not class anyone earning less than £200k as very wealthy .

The problem will be that many earners will end up in the Ā£200000pa bracket later down the line. It’ll be another stealth tax

If you’re referring to inflation then you just need to ensure it’s indexed. A responsible economy would keep its tax thresholds indexed (but none do because, as you point out, they can sneakily increase revenue at a higher rate if they fix the thresholds.).

Inflation is fairly high but I think if £200,000 a year becomes a normal wage in a fairly short time the country has much bigger problems.
