Wasn't that the game where Northampton capitulated late on at home to secure our safety? Think they were a couple of goals up, but then blew up ensuring our safety. Had they not, we would have needed something against Accrington on the last day of the season.

Sliding Doors moment.
It was MK Dons - against Barnsley? Or Bolton? We would have needed something against Accrington, which we could easily have got but gave up as we were already on the beach.

Apparently the championship is currently the only major league where every team is either mathematically capable of going up, or of going down (or both for a couple of teams). I haven’t checked this dubious fact, but thought of if I posted it here someone would soon point out if it’s wrong :)

Correct everyone up from 14th Sheffield Wednesday can still go up and everyone down from 15 th QPR can still go down. It will probably change come the end of Friday night but with 4 games remaining that just shows how crazy competitive this league is.

If this isn't the place for dubious facts where the bloody hell is?!!

Why are people writing off Plymouth so readily? Three points from safety and are a team, and manager, who have an awful lot of fight.
Plymouth, even if they kept up their current form of 1.6 points per game they would end up on 47. Luton under current form would end on 46, Cardiff on 46, Derby on 50, Hull on 50, Pompey on 49, Stoke on 53 and us on 54.

They have just left it a bit too late IMO.

I've just had a bit of a go on that calculator and walking away in 20th with 51 points (3 draws.. Cardiff, Sunderland and Swansea). Plymouth, Cardiff and Luton going down with Derby and Plymouth tied on 49 points (but Derby surviving with a superior GD).

At the top end, it has Burnley winning the league by a point against Leeds and Sheffield, Sunderland, Bristol City and WBA all making the play offs.

F*ck knows!!

This is the most mental league in the world, so anything can happen between now and May 3rd - just concentrate on ourselves and get the points required to stay up without relying on others - I think we will.

I saw online today that there are NO Championship sides either safe from relegation or out of the promotion race yet - madness.

You have Plymouth beating 3 of Middlesbrough (chasing a play off place and at their place), Coventry (chasing a play off place), Preston (nothing to play for but away) and Leeds last game of the season who could well need a win to get the title??

Cardiff have only won once in the last eight league games and the fans are booing them off the pitch.

Yeah, think I had them down for Middlesbrough, Preston and Leeds.

Preston (nothing to play for but away)

Is that the same Preston who only sit 1 point above us and from their previous 4 games have lost 2 and drew 2 which were against Stoke and Cardiff?

They have QPR and Hull in their next 2 games and fail to get anything from them and they could be dragged right into the fight. They have got one of the hardest games for the last game, Bristol city away who will likely need a result to clinch a play off place.

I would agree that Preston is the most winnable game left for Plymouth. It is still bat s**t crazy to think they will win 2 from the the other 3.

Plymouth away record is 9 points from 21 games and only one of them was a win at Pompey. They need to win atleast 1 away game and both of their home games which are against Coventry ( who will be kicking themselves for giving up points last night) and Leeds who may need points to win the league or guarantee automatics.

I just can't see them getting 9 points from 12 but fair play if they do.

Preston are by no means safe just yet from Cardiff or any other teams trying to avoid the last relegation place so probably will need a result against Plymouth to guarantee survival.

Yes, I’ve predicted Sunderland, Swansea & Cardiff all beat Us 2-1, and Leeds win 2-0.

I realise the Cardiff prediction might be wildly out or at least not something everyone agrees with, but they’re fighting for survival, will be their final home game and I’d expect CO’D to be influential in a fierce game. Just my view.

I can’t see us getting any points from the Leeds or Sunderland matches, and Swansea are coming into form and when we play them it’ll be their final home game and Sheehan will probably be announced as their new manager.

Will be relieved and ecstatic if my predictions turn out to be wrong but you only have to look at our inconsistent form and the loss of Brown to worry how well perform.
But, be honest, what did you predict for the past 3 games?

Ok, final update on this. Ignoring the covid year - of the 57 teams in the relegation places after 42 games, 53 end up getting relegated so if you're in there now, it's looking very bleak.

In term of points only 2 teams with 48 or more points after 42 games have been relegated (in the same season 2013 - Wolves in 23rd, 48 and Peterborough in 21st with 50).

In terms of positions, no team in 17th after 42 games has been relegated. The closest is Gillingham in 2005, who were 18th with 47 points but ended up relegated with 52 points. At that point though, they were only 2 points clear of the bottom 3, not 6 like we are.

So, in conclusion, it's basically done - we're pretty much safe. I know there'll be some twitching about this, but it would take a very unusual set of results for us to get relegated from here.
Please don’t count your chickens!

But, be honest, what did you predict for the past 3 games?

I predicted a draw at Sheffield Wednesday, and at home to QPR, and guessed we’d beat Sheffield Utd. So far from being overly pessimistic and I got one out of three correct.
