 QPR v Luton

Although we don't know how much he's actually been given to spend
Yes, quite a lot of that money will be going on wages unless all of the players agreed to take a very substantial cut in pay if relegated.

From what I can find, last year Luton earned £9.4M 'prize money' for coming 18th (!!!)* and in 2022/23 (couldn't find last years figures) the clubs near the bottom got about £100m in TV money**

So if they got £50m then they have more than £50m less than last year in their coffers.

Not sure what that proves except that the money in the Prem is ridiculous and can end up being a burden on clubs who go down because of the transfer money many of them spend to try and stay up and the wages they have to pay. Not sure that applies to Luton though!

OK, but even if we're being the most charitable we can be, and saying that Edwards was a little hamstrung this season because all of the parachute money has been going out on paying the wages of the players that they brought down with them (which I think is very charitable, given that they still signed Shandon, Victor Moses, McGuinness from Cardiff and some Bundesliga CM this summer)......

......that still means that the squad that Edwards assembled expensively last year not only couldn't keep them in the Premier League then, but is struggling to keep them in the Championship this year!

Also neither Burnley nor Sheffield United seems to have been struggling under the same constraints.

Am not disagreeing - he is doing an awful job!

Haven’t Luton just got the green light for a new stadium as well? Maybe they are diverting a lot of revenue away from the pitch in the short term to pay for it? I guess we’ll see how ambitious they are to recruit in January. It might also mean they are hesitant to pull the trigger on Edward’s if he is on a lucrative contrac

Most of the various sites suggest that Luton's salaries are around 4th highest in the league- double Oxfords.
They should have plenty to be comfortable in the league
