Middle ground....... where they all want to be.

Although Thatcherite economics were alright if you had the vision to work hard for what was on offer...................
I'm pretty sure the miners* were working pretty damn hard before Thatcher threw them out of work.

*Interestingly, predominantly white, working class males whose sons and daughters now believe that even more right wing politician than Thatcher will do the bidding of ......checks notes... white, working class males!

Incorrectly. Sorry.

Right to buy made a lot of people better off and later "wealthy".

Share offers like British Gas, BT would have helped a lot of folk take the first step into stocks, shares, investing.

Yes the consequences were not thought through..... if councils kept the money and built more housing stock RtB would have been a long term success.

And privatising national necessities was not the wisest move without HMG control on reinvestment rather than profit and bonuses.
Right to buy also increased levels of homelessness because of instructions from central government that councils should not replace social housing stock but should concentrate on private homes, so it's very disingenuous of you to blame the councils for not building more social housing.

The denationalisation of many industries have led directly to a lot of the problems we're now seeing: unaccountable bosses giving themselves and their shareholders huge payouts while neglecting the infrastructure, resulting in all the raw sewage currently seeping into our rivers and waterways, in addition to high (and increasing) energy bills, despite the energy companies making huge profits that go directly into the pockets of the already wealthy rather than reducing bills and improving infrastructure.

Thatcherism was a disaster for the working class, a disaster for labour and social rights, and a disaster for the long-term prosperity of the nation.

So you don't think the state's cash assets should be given away in benefits but you support the state's building assets being given away?

Do you hold a single view your don't change on a daily basis?

Hold hard, read the post, and stop with the selective quoting you missed this bit "if councils kept the money and built more housing stock RtB would have been a long term success."

Do you always base your opinions on selective vision?

Yes. Very much so. It was false prosperity in some parts of the country (whilst other parts were deliberately left to ruin) based on selling off national assets. Absolutely zero to be proud of.

Well she started the Net Zero revolution by shutting down those dirty polluting coal mines........................ :)

Jo Cox and David Amess also come to mind.

Deranged people come from across political spectrums, or are entirely apolitical.

The point is that Farage was happy walking the streets of Clacton with a fairly moderate security team, meeting complete strangers for photo opportunities.

Yet he wasn't happy going into an enclosed building with heightened security, searching and checking of credentials of all who enter, and with a police presence on top of his own security.

So if there was still a significant credible threat, then that should have been raised with the police and be on public record.

It wasn't because there was no credible threat. It was a lie. Like everything that Reform do. Even after an election where they present themselves as the party of the people, they openly lie to those people.

And the likes of you suck up these lies every time.
Every party lies to ,I loved it with Brown that time .

It was never about helping to increase housing supply. It was only every a selling off of public assets on the cheap in order to win over political allegiances.

From get-go the rules were set very deliberately by the Tory government to, not only generate receipts way insufficient to enable serious replenishment of the lost public housing stock, but to direct a significant part of the receipts away from local government to central government. And for you to say 'Yes the consequences were not thought through' is a cop out as this very thing was pointed out at the time. The fact that people believe the lies and spin told about the scheme is not a defence. The bottom line remains that, irrespective of how the receipts generated were spent, it was a government giveaway of the likes you hated when it comes to benefits. So not selective.

Serious question for the reform voters on here.
How do you feel the proposed PIP end and welfare savings will help / not help reform?
Do you think it’s a sensible proposal?
Do you think it will affect the grass roots support?

Reform will likely still get lots of votes from those people who never look beyond a headline or assume that they're going after someone else.

As long as all of this can be targeted towards immigrants of those with "mild anxiety" then those on rely on welfare won't think that it affects them.

Thanks scotch that’s what I think but I’d really like to understand the viewpoint from reform voters.

I wonder if this proposal, far fetched as it sounds has been made to draw debate from the other parties. The Tories have often mentioned that welfare cuts need to be made and Labour have not given a clear indication of how they’d respond. The Liberals always appear to want to increase the budget.
Maybe Reforms proposals will draw a wider debate.

Wouldn`t vote for them nationally myself, however welfare should only be a safety net not a life style choice.

If Nigel keeps putting his ego above the cause then his proposals will become more and more meaningless.

First he turned on Lowe, now Zia. Whenever he's not the centre of attention he can't handle it.

If he doesn't work alongside Kemi, Lowe then we will continue to have mass-migration, illegal immigration, a welfare society, crime, the list of problems goes on.

If he doesn't get his act together he will sink Reform, and hand the next GE to the left.

Here's hoping

Reform is a party i could never vote for. Their policies hark back to the fascist ideas of the past. Their ideas are purely based on blaming particular groups, while they feather their own nests. Farage, Zia, Jenrick, & Tice are all millionaires pretending to be ordinary men of the people. Don't let these charlatans fool you.

Reform certainly do have the hallmarks of a Fascist party. How many of these bullet points have we seen from Reform? Pretty much a full house, I would say.

Come on, come out all you shy reform voters, it’s a bit like the last time the Tory’s got it, no one voted for them on exit poles but they won by a landslide
Looking at the graph at the top of the thread a really small percentage of forum voters wouldn’t vote for reform but they are still neck and neck with labour.
If that t**t fuckum tries to run the country we are well and truly fucked.

Anne widdicombe always turned up to counts because she valued the electorate and the campaign volunteers. Don’t smear her integrity.
Yep, she never confected a story about "Police advice" over her security. She had far more integrity than that.

Incredible to think that some will vote for Reform on the basis that it "can't be any worse"

Really? Nigel and Co says hold their beers....

Mind you I think his chances of making it to the next general election as an MP are currently worse than 50:50.

Even Margaret Thatcher for all her faults, didn't insult the elcectorate and turned up to the counts, and she had death threats from the IRA lurking over her.

Nigel Farage's potential 'threats' were a few heckles, mainstream news reporters asking awkward questions, and a strawberry McFlurry from McDonalds!

and it turns out, in the pre-sent letters (actual posted letters) to attendees of "FarageFest" it was always planned he would be there for the announcement, not at the count. If you are going to lie, at least don't have written postmarked evidence to the contrary.

Have no fear - I'm sure the usual Farage/Reform apologists will have a perfectly rational (in their heads at least) explanation for this . . . .

"FarageFest"? How very Trumpian. Although unbelievably there are people stupid enough to actually want this in our country.

Enjoy your sparkling wine whilst the world burns, people!

Greenpeace's response.

Tice’s words show that a party bankrolled by fossil fuel interests will keep denying the climate crisis for its funders’ benefit even when its impacts are undeniable.

Reform should try telling nurses fainting on shifts, farmers losing their crops and people running from burning homes to enjoy the hot weather and see what reaction they’ll get.

There’s only one way to stop this extreme weather: cutting emissions from fossil fuels. Things will only get from bad to worse if we listen to the politicians being paid to deny it’s even happening.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Reform collapse before the next election. Farage will be found out and has pretty much gone into hiding ahead of an important by-election.

Far too many skeletons in his closet and his narcissistic greed has pissed off too many people. Rupert Lowe and Restore are an absolute disgrace, but they have grown out of a collective hatred for Farage. It won't be long before he presents himself as the victim in all of this and jumps before all of his deals are laid open for all to see.

Others will be smelling blood and we're already seeing a power play between Jenrick and Yusef, and it won't be long before the likes of Braverman start making a play for control, whilst others like Pochin and Anderson go rogue.

The Tories couldn't unite the right or their party, and we will see the same with those further to the right.

I said back in June that Reform would collapse before the next election, and it looks like its happening already.

Farage hasn't gone, but he has been weakened significantly by the £5m stuff and the farce of the by-election. Yes, he will maintain his core vote. Like Trump supporters, the more dodgy he looks, the more they like him. But these core voters were never enough for victory at a GE.

And instead of winning over Tories or disaffected Labour supporters, he is now seen by many as a grifter, a liar and a joke. His weekly press conferences have disappeared, as has his frequent spots on every TV channel. GB news and Talk TV have questioned his explanation for his £5m gift, and right wing papers including the Times, the Telegraph and the Mail have run repeated stories against him.

Collectively, they now see Kemi Badenoch as the one most likely to become the next PM from the right.

It's only a matter of time before Farage quits to make a s**t tonne more money without any of the scrutiny that comes with it.

And Reform senior figures know this and smell blood. Zia Yusuf (possibly the single most odious individual in UK politics) is pulling the strings from Reform HQ and directly challenging Robert Jenrick (the second most odious) in what is looking like a battle for future leader. Neither have any of the charm or presence that Farage possesses, and neither have any hope of growing support for Reform. Yusuf is hated by the racist element of Reforms base, and is politically naive. Jenrick is hated by Tories and those that hate the Tories!

And beyond this you've got the likes of Richard Tice, Lee Anderson, Sarah Pochin and Suella Braverman who no one takes seriously anymore.

I said they'd collapse by the next election, I now think they'll be behind Labour and the Tories in the polls by the end of the year, and will barely see out the next 12 months as a party with credible GE ambitions.
