Does that make you far left even though you may be Labour?
It wouldn’t bother me to be called far left. It’s probably a bit strong though - if I am I’m a hypocrite too. I’m probably to the left of the current Labour Party. Mind you every one keeps accusing Labour of doing Tory things so that would mean that the tories are far left 🤷

Sorry to break it to you mate, but even the Lib Dems are further to the left than this current Labour lot. Labour hasn't been a left-wing party since Tony Blair abolished Clause 4

The terminology is odd though isn’t it? You’re probably a keen Burnham supporter, but he’s often described as soft left.
Burnham seems to have adopted some hard left policies like nationalisation and wealth taxes. There’s not much mention of them in the manifesto, but I’d imagine Andy can’t do too much more than Starmer has. His backbenchers will most likely welfare reform. I personally have come round to the idea that the triple lock won’t be kept, but they could go further with a reform of the pension credit that would save the exchequer a good bit of money. Although there is a reputed £5billion black hole for the new PM, I’d imagine that be negated by the stealth taxes…ie the frozen thresholds. The effects of inflation as a result of fuel rises including taxes have yet to feed their way through.
It’ll be a tough ask for the new PM to get any real grip of the economy. The Conservatives don’t offer much hope, so I could see Labour staying in for another five years.

They’re described as right wing. Even the Conservatives don’t use that terminology even if some of those on the left of the Labour Party do.
Far right is the term used to describe those who are fascist and anti democratic…or a criticism made by those that don’t like Reform and want to denigrate them as extreme
I don’t know, this is what google tells me what a far right political party is:
often characterized by strict nationalism, nativism, and opposition to immigration. These parties typically advocate for authoritarian policies, traditional social values, and the protection of ethnic or national identity.

Don't trust google - clearly owned and written by lefties . . .

I think you are confusing the limited, targeted (eg monopolies) nationalisation with a planned economy. Even Reform said they were going to nationalise water.

The far right in Germany were all in favour of a controlled economy as are the left. Most of the electorate id think favour nationalizing water and probably railways too. Transport needs modernization and water has been very badly managed.
I don’t see much consensus on communications and utilities though.

Well the AfD are kind of nationalising socialists, or something like that.

Tories need to get the right candidate for this as its theirs to win. They got 33,000 votes and 72% of the vote in 2019. In 2024, those voters were split with 21,000 voting Fagage and 12,000 staying with the Tories.

Farage will still hold a core vote, but I would bet on a big chunk of those who ticked his box in 2024 going back to the Tories this time round. Then you've got the 11,000 or so that voted Labour, Lib Dems and Green.

If they go with "anyone but Farage", Restore drag some further to the right, and the Tories put up someone credible, then Farage is toast.

I think a Tobias Ellwood would absolutely walk this and probably kill Reform off for good.

You have literally just called nationalists a 'hard left policy'. 🤷

Tories aren't putting a candidate up. Refusing to be pulled into Farage's tantrum.

Farage will be favourite, but there needs to ne a very strong opposition .
There with inevitably be a lot of people voting for anybody but Farage.
The fact that he has hardly been to Clacton ( and couldnt care about the people of Clacton- prefers JD Vance) has to be reinforced time after time.
Would be fantastic for him to lose and his thin skin will struggle ( expect he wont do many interviews)

From what I'm reading, none of the major parties will stand candidates.

And then the party, when in power, unfairly rewards that person! Are you seriously saying it’s not as bad?! It’s arguably worse!
I'd be interested to hear your examples of when any political party, in the history of the UK, has ever donated a figure in the millions to any of their MPs. Sure, some MPs are grifters but Farage is in a league of his own both in the amounts concerned and the shamelessness of his greed.

Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Farage will win this. Other parties are seeking to make it a no contest.
But I don’t have any idea why he would go down this route.

Not convinced that Reform are dead and if they are then Restore will fill the void. Too many people are disenfranchised with mainstream political parties.
Believe me. Reform are very strong especially in the south east. The Conservatives and Labour are struggling

Reform are a million times more mainstream than Restore and they're already seeing a majority of votes rejecting them. Restore will disrupt the right but they're not anywhere near serious politics.

Being disenfranchised is one thing, and the established parties need to listen to voters. But change has to be credible and better than what already exists. And that isn't Reform, Restore, Advance or any other entity currently on the right of politics.

So.... if no other party stands, Farage gets in unopposed?
And who does that benefit?
It benefits everyone really, because it strips the media power out of this stunt and makes Farage look rather sillier than he already does.

Sure but that idea that Reform are dead which was your original point is just not true. No party gets a majority in a GE so every party sees a majority of voters reject them! I'm left leaning but the reality is that Reform have a lot of support and burying your head in the sand and pretending they don't is not going to change that. Here in Bicester due to well documented recent events, I suspect their support will grow more.

Given it looks like it will between Farage and Count Binface, I reckon Farage might win too!

The British public don't like being taken for granted. Count Binface standing would be hilarious and would get those who hate Farage out to vote. It would then lead to Farage having to appeal to his supporters to get out in numbers to counter this, which will look desperate.

This could be brilliant

The problem is, it is not the British public who are voting, well not most of us. Just a tiny amount in Clacton and Farage won't have to do much to get them to vote for him.
