Scored some absolutely belters, but also responsible for some of the most mind-boggling decisions I've ever seen from a professional footballer - always trying to overplay and overcomplicate when he had the pace to just leave full-backs for dead if he wanted to.

Kind of player you want to do well, but ultimately a bit of a let-down in my eyes - those few special moments mean will look back on his time more favourably than many of his peers though!

That’s the mystery with him, he never had the confidence to get one on one with the full back and beat him on pace - probably because his care and control of a football was so poor. Very forgettable signing and a player we aren’t going to miss one bit.

If you couldn’t enjoy a player like Shemmy at Oxford United then you either haven’t been a fan for very long or have a terrible memory. 😆
Or have been a fan for so long, you remember a long list of much better wingers... as you should if you remember Durnin.

I remember a whole list of wingers worse than Shemmy
Of course some a lot better, but few that weren't inconsistent ( out and out wingers, not Massey, McDonald who I dont see as out and out wingers)

He did ok, and had his moments, including a couple of worldie strikes.

But we now have Mills, who's everything Shemmy isn't, decisive with the ball, loves to run at the full back, gets his crosses off early, and does his defensive duties well, so we'll be fine.

He didn't set the place on fire, but I think Shemmy will have enjoyed his time with us, and I can't imagine there will be many who don't wish him well.
The difference is that Stan is right footed and plays on the right so goes outside the full back to get crosses in and does it very well.
Shemmy was averse to using his right foot so constantly cut inside. He did score a few screamers doing that, but usually got closed down and had to pass back or inside.
I personally like wingers playing on their strong side as Stan does. More chance of creating for the striker/s.

I can think of a good few past strikers worse than Mark Harris. By your theory I guess you have enjoyed watching him play the last few seasons? 😅

The problem is that even though he's clearly left footed, he's actually not as effective on the left, and never got to the byline and put left footed crosses in!

So which one of you statto's can provide the following for comparison purposes? Last two Championship seasons only.

Shem - G/A in his OUFC career
Stan - G/A in his OUFC career
Emakhu - G/A in his OUFC career
A N OTHER winger - G/A in his OUFC career

Shemmy - 6 goals and 4 assists over 24 months
Mills - 4 goals and 4 assist over 18 months
Those two are pretty similar, and no one else is close

I thought he was ok, nothing more, but a scorer of spectacular goals. Possibly should have done more in his career though.

More than football sometimes:

Very very nice statement, and seems a really genuine bloke. His short burst of 4/5 games just after Rowett came in last season probably kept us up, and while he was incredibly frustrating at times, it was never for lack of trying.
