If you see anyone arguing that our leadership doesn’t deserve criticism for off-the-field issues then I reckon you’re free to go all-in.

We know they messed up. The paying customers are suffering and blame them for it. Stan was asked to suffer a bit alongside us for a couple of months to avoid making things worse for the rest of us and fucked it off. He’s free to do that, I’m free to not hold him in the same regard as other players who behave better.

Wanting Swindon to get relegated regardless of what league we are in should be the norm for any Oxford fan. Wanting a random team in the North West to struggle just because they had the audacity to sign one of our players is a bit odd IMO.

It’s as cringeworthy as other fans doing the whole teamslikeOxford.

This is deliberately taking what I said out of context, which was purely to demonstrate you could want a team/player away from your club and still not wish them success after you got what you wanted.

Absolutely no one here feels the same about Preston as they do about Swindon.

When you talk about it being odd and cringeworthy, I think you’re taking the sentiment (and yourself) too seriously. No one here is going to go and get a tattoo of the league table if Preston finish 24th. It’s just a cheap laugh when i) we don’t have much to laugh about ii) we don’t have a game to distract us.

Ultimately, if you are worried about things that look cringeworthy, I’ve always found those who try to police/criticise the harmless fun/opinions of others online to be pretty high on the list.

I think I get my sense of belonging out of wanting us to win and do well, and the positive community spirit that induces, rather than petty vendettas for no real reason, but each to their own, I suppose.

I find it odd that we had fans slagging Mills off and wanting him out of the club the other week and now we have those same fans keeping an eye on Preston games and checking how Mills got on today.

More so how after Saturday when he provided an assist he was getting praised by the majority and now he’s public enemy number 1 again. .

Tbh I couldn’t care less about them or Mills, I think they will stay up anyway but just looks a bit sad going on and some of the comments about Mills shattering his knee etc on other platforms is slightly distasteful.

We’ve got the money for mills and he’s no longer our problem and neither are Preston.

No-one is claiming we’re in a better position than them at this moment in time. Just that it could turn out to be an incredibly short-sighted move.

Even if they do get relegated, if he does well regardless (as he did for us) it could still prove good for him in career terms. He's playing at a higher level for more money, so I'm not sure it would be deemed a failure unless he himself flops. I guess he's backing himself not to do that.

He got his move to a Championship club on the back of a relegation season with us... who's to say he won't do exactly the same at the end of next season if Preston go down

Oh come on. This thread is a long tradition of those temporary rivalries that tend to have a single trigger event. Just off the top of my head I can recall similar threads on this forum and its various iterations:

Why is this thread any different? Preston aren’t a rival but fans feel annoyed at Mills for his way of going about things, pissed off at PNE for their lowball offers and bemused that he’s opted for a side that look like they may well struggle and be back in the situation he’s found himself in already.

They’re not Swindon (not even Reading) but they can be the villain de jour for now. I’m enjoying the schadenfreude as they sit on three defeats from three for their league campaign.

All Preston have done is try to get the best deal for a player they want, i would expect we would do the same iof buying a player from a lower division. And although Mills hasnt behaved in a good way, he has only gone to preston for the money and if we could double or triple our wages we would do the same. Nothing wrong with you starting this thread at all. I’m not really sure why so many have felt it necessary to act as if they are some kind of moral compass for the forum and call for the thread to be locked / deleted. There will be undoubted interest throughout the season if Preston continue to lose. There aren’t any comments on this thread have been rude about Preston or have verbally abused Mr Mills.

It’s a football forum for football matters!

There are threads on this forum I have zero interest in that are on the front screen at the moment, ie Labour government, word association, wordle. I don’t call for them to be locked or deleted, I just make a very simple decision to ignore it as I have no interest in it.
