Pre-Season Pre-Season 25/26 - Indonesia Tour

Good that the club will finally acknowledged the supporters who made the commitment both financially and time wise to support the players. It does all feel a bit reactionary though.

I suspect there are people who run the club on a day to day basis who simply don’t understand the psyche of a dedicated football fan and in our case an Oxford United fan. They simply don’t get it, it’s alien to them. When you lose people like Niall, Chris and recently Martin you do lose that local connection and genuine understanding of OUFC supporters.

My guess is that those who regularly read and post on this forum are not at all surprised that 50 fans have travelled, they expected it and know with a little bit more communication and acknowledgement that fans would want to travel from the club those numbers would be far greater.

It’s disappointing. As a bonding exercise and experience between club, supporters, players and our Indonesian friends an opportunity has been missed.
we definitely felt like we were part of the experience for Indonesian fans. A couple of hundred Us (maybe that would be stretching likelihood) would have made a huge splash.

I’m not even sure that lack of notice was the problem (not really the clubs fault - apparently there were attempts to get 6 European clubs over, and the timing of the tour had to change to make it work even to have us and Port FC there). It was more the lack of certainty that it was definitely happening, or options to buy tickets in an “away section”. I took the punt, but I can understand why many others didn’t. We only met 2 other Aussie exiles (Perth and Adelaide) - im sure there were some others, but I’m also sure there would be a dozen or more who might have come given a bit more info.

It was disappointing that at the final whistle the players went to shake hands with the opposition and officials and then went off to the changing rooms or interviews without a single player or staff acknowledging us. there wasn’t an away section. But we had hung several flags over the railings on the top tier which would have been visible throughout the game from the benches and technical areas on the opposite side of the pitch so it was pretty obvious where we were mostly congregating.

I’m hoping that this becomes an annual event, and that with some extra planning time and the prize money incentives, that at least one other European team with an Indonesian player or two joins as well next time.

I’m sure it’d add to the experience to have some more Oxford fans and some other travelling supporters from Europe. Would improve the standard of opposition as well.

I thought I saw half a wave from Moore, but maybe not as you would have thought he might have dragged the boys over.

Or maybe Thailand instead …

Fair response. I try to be balanced, but they don't make it easy with one thing after another. I want the best for our club, which is how I am with most things.

I suppose as time has gone by I have become more frustrated by the fact that they don't seem to be learning, and to a certain extent don't appear to care how they come across. That has led to my tolerance levels being much lower. When I was working I gave my employees the best salaries and conditions and I expected that to be reflected in their performance. If they had kept making the sort of basic errors that some of our people are making I would have fired them by now.

Just to make my point a little. I hadn't mentioned it until now, but on the club website story about the squad for Indonesia it says that Greg Leigh has been given time off as he's spent much of the summer playing for Indonesia!!! I mean, FFS don't they ever proof read things???!!!

Spot the mistake…

It is becoming way too regular isn't it. Although some on here will criticise for pointing these errors out...
Which is bizarre, really. I can't get my head around why, as a fan, you wouldn't want the club to be the best it can be at everything it does and why you'd be happy to excuse seemingly every mistake that you see.

I think the odd mistake can be forgiven, none of us are perfect.

But, for anyone to suggest that these small, basic errors are not a recurring theme in our comms, are in my opinion, aiding and abetting the club into allowing these items to continue to pass, without the club being held to account.

It’s basic stuff but it falls short of what should be expected.

FFS!!!

Someone actually gets paid to do this. It is their job.

That we can send out something with 20 words in it, and spell one of the principal words incorrectly is unforgivable. That it's the name of our opponents makes that even worse. Anybody excusing this obviously has low, or no, standards. Also where are the checks?

I'd say I'm lost for words, but I think whoever is consistently sending these error strewn messages out has already lost enough words.

*principal :)

Me and the boy just about to get on our flight back to Perth. Definitely wish I was down in Bandung with @MarkG, fmo and all the others, but I’ll just have pull on my big boy pants and head to work again tomorrow. Next game will be Charlton away assuming we can get tickets.
Safe travel, Chuckbert, and many thanks for sharing your experience over the last few days. Greatly appreciated.

At this point, the only plausible explanation is that they are doing it on purpose.

Perhaps there is even a game going on - to see who can get the biggest reaction on here with their error. Or even who can get away with the worst 'error'?

Absolutely, the odd mistake can be forgiven. We've all got a mistake in us from time to time. But you've got to get to a point where you draw a line and say it's not good enough.

The constant mistakes in communications are one thing and worthy of discussion. The bigger concern for me is how we've seen the same pattern of mistakes in the administration of the club (hello embargo) and how the club continually brush off the fans by kicking fans forums down the road as far as they can. Not only are some fans not bothered by that, but they actually call out people that are.

I just don't get it. I think there are a number of good, professional and hard working people serving OUFC's best interests who are currently employed by the club, but also some others that aren't all of the above. And it's likely that those who want to do well are being let down by the others. I think there are some obvious warning signs there that people are missing.

It kind of reminds me of when Karl Robinson was in charge. People identified things going wrong long before he left but they were talked down. But over time, the dissenters got louder and were eventually proved right. I think there is probably an overlap of the people that kept faith in Karl for too long and those seemingly happy to drop expectations on the level of professionalism we should expect from the club.

In the case of Karl, we've had 3 competent appointments since he left and they have arguably all achieved more than he ever did and in a shorter space of time. Perhaps if we demand better from the club then things will improve?

Once we return can we bin of the media team .Absolute shocking what's being produced from the work experience kids while away on tour .

The difference being mine must have been changed by predictive text as I originally typed principal (no idea why, and I have corrected it now, thanks) and I don't get paid to do this as my job.
Also, in support of you Colin, there is a world of difference between the standards expected in corporate communications and those required in a forum post*. I am a sea of typos on here but try to keep standards up at work.

*I can feel @SteMerritt disagreeing from here.

Just caught the last ten minutes of the other game in our group, finished 2-2. Arema looked more likely to win than the All Stars.

Slight concern is that the pitch looks dreadful and won’t look any better after 4 or 5 games on it this week. Guaranteed to play in at least two more now after today’s result.

The game between Arema and All Star finished 2-2. Arema were 1-0 up at the break and made it 2-0 before conceding two poor penalties (both correct decisions by the ref). The pitch was absolute carnage. The standard of footy wasn't great but enjoyable nonetheless. We shouldn't have anything to fear from Arema on Thursday (crosses fingers)
