Sadly has become a bit of an anthem for the Swedish equivalent of the National Front here...

Footnote: The Swedish Democrats who have been variously described as..... "National conservatives, anti-Islam, Eurosceptic and far-right " are the second largest party in the Swedish Parliament.

I can see why your personal biases wouldn`t like them.

Then factor in Perkele, who`s bassist is from Sri Lanka and, according to Wiki "Perkele claim to be strongly against all kinds of racism, nationalism, fascism, sexism, and homophobia as well as being opposed to hate, war, and environmental pollution. Despite this, in the past their appearance at traditionally left-wing events has caused controversy due to some of their songs featuring lyrical themes of Swedish and Finnish nationalist sentiments"

Now tell me again why we should not use it in relation to the Club if we are looking for a relative anthem.

Anyone ever thought with the right person at the helm, how we could really up the music game at the stadium generally?

Imagine how good the vibe could be before the game with a carefully selected variety of genres, tempos, reaching a crescendo as the players hit the tunnel. Appropriate uplifting music during half time, and full time, etc.

I reckon crowd favourites would quickly surface and a general running list works develop, with the odd nugget thrown in to keep people on their toes. I'd love to give it a go!
I like this idea - I remember going to Rochdale a few years ago and the pre-match music was pretty much all Madchester/Britpop stuff, Oasis, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets etc, it was great and really got the crowd up for it by kick off.

FWIW I love the Perkele song, I've always been one for a good shouty tune, regardless of the relevance of it, Irene/Take me Home Country Road as examples. One I've mentioned before in a similar vein is Ruby Tuesday, absolutely no relevance but easy to sing loudly.

As has been said before it really depends what age group you’re in but maybe the club should come up with songs from the past five decades and we could have a vote. That would be the most democratic way. Problem is who chooses those songs in the first place.

My vote would be Kashmir Led Zepellin it was played when we faced the scum in that epic victory

One request though and this isn’t the song they run out to but was played before the games in that glorious run in

Club Foot Kasabian

Yup, Swedish Democrats are the right-wing racists, no denying that. Your point here?

And it doesn't matter what an artist's views are, their work can still be adopted by others who hold contrasting opinions. Perkele aren't Oxford fans (that I know of), yet people are suggesting that we adopt their song as one of our anthems. For all we know, they avidly hate football, or may even be Swindon fans*.

*Of course it is highly unlikely they actually are, I'm being facetious, but you (hopefully) get my point.

The only thing about the discussion here is I would imagine the contributions are mainly from those closer to pushing a pension season ticket than a young persons one. Much of the stuff under discussion probably sound to them like talk of Perry Como does to those of the older generation. Need a wider viewpoint.

Young and Oxford band...

They are certainly making a bit of a name for themselves at the moment, I saw they announced a string of dates across the county very recently, and headlined the free festival at Cowley.

Olden is golden.

...and who can't sing along, to The Ox Drivers song?

Good point Gav, but I'm not keen on anything that will wake me from the deep sleep I often find myself in. Good shout on Perry Como though - 'Magic Moments' would possibly have me nodding my head in an almost imperceptible manner.

I find the Arsenal fans singing North London Forever incredibly cringeworthy if I'm honest. I'd hate for us to try and emulate something so kitsch.

No offensive.
Didn't mean it needed to be like that, just wondering if there was merit in supporting local artists to create something unique the style and approach could be determined by the brief and who was selected

maybe a solution to the shed end would be to have a container stage for up and coming local talent pre-match would be good exposure and add something innovative to what is currently s**t

Guiltier than charged- Ive had an old bastard ST for a couple of seasons now

that said - I m still going to some local gigs, they generally dont particularly have much in the way of what Id call young persons at them . Perhaps that illustrates @OUFCGav point, conversely it could mean these younger persons arent that arsed about the local music scene in the main?

I've been to some gigs this year where I have felt decidedly old (no danger of the glare off shaved balding heads :-) ) which have been good. Like everything the "scene" at the younger end is ever more fragmented.

keep mine under a cap, or hat, usually :)

At the various raresoul events I play ( DJ - original vinyl) across the UK these days, its invariably a mixed group age wise including a increasingly growing amount of teens and 20 somethings ( which is indicative IMO, that warble pop etc ain't their thing, and also that live real band wise there's not much currently that appeals)- that said there was a weekender I played recently, predominantly an oldies event musically, that the term oldies could've been applied to more than half the punters- I actually felt rather young in comparison!- Rare soul events of course are based round old soul/funk records predominatly 60s, 70s & early 80s vintage . So nothing even vaguely contemporary there, yet there's lots of teens 20 somethings who do find an attraction in music from a few or more decades ago.

The only thing that really matters is that we have this conversation every 18-24 months, and fail utterly to reach a consensus.

Never has my faith been so strong.
Ridiculous post. My suggestion got 20% of the vote. That’s way more than any other suggestion and very high when you factor in the millions of song choices out there.

It’s also notable AND BEEN FACTUALLY PROVEN (FACT) that 95% of those objecting didn’t actually play through the song to imagine it in its new context as the entry theme. They merely remembered the opening 30 seconds as a slow build up and then their song Tourette’s possessed their souls to shout far inferior options
