I will forever be mindful of Manning's departure, meaning chiefly the manger of it. However, he did leave us for a considerably bigger club and then left them for his boyhood club. Not entirely excusing his conduct, but forgiveness is a virtue. There would be man many worse options.
No there wouldn't.

Living in the west country, I know a few Bristol City fans who haven't forgiven him!

The fact that the club would rather have Short in charge on Boxing Day than Rowett suggests that Rowett maybe had lost the dressing room in the end.
Ben Purkiss was at the game and said that from what he saw, Rowett definitely had NOT lost the dressing room

You wouldn’t support the club any more if they hired a manager that you didn’t like?

Each to their own but I find that attitude baffling.
Not any manager but THAT manager. We've made managerial mistakes before (e.g. David Kemp) but we didn't rehire them!

Rowett and certainly KR could be seen as pretty divisive managers.

Re-appointing Manning would crap all over that. I think the depth of feeling would be too strong for too many.
This would be hilarious.

He done a decent job at Bristol City playing some excellent football and got them in the play offs which they haven't achieved previously for years. Norwich came knocking and not only offered more money and a longer contract it is his hometown club. Norwich didn't have a great season last season and lost some decent players in the summer and never replaced the quality.

I think you will find it hard to find someone on here who wouldn't change jobs for more pay.
It's not what he did, it's the way he did it!

Not a joke but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up back here. We will likely go for an out of work manager and wether you like it or not there probably isn't any better available.
Well, that would be the end of my 60 odd year relationship with Oxford United then! At least it would save me the 220 mile round trip for home games though!

Liam Manning would make sense on a few levels.

And it would be hilarious.

Don’t actually think it really matters who is next. The bods at the top need to be changed.
Agree- as it stands as long as whoever comes in can ensure/secure Championship football for next season (and beyond) Ill be ( reasonably) happy. Whether the chuckle brothers ( & Waldron) will back whoever is appointed 100% , unlike DB for example, remains very much to be seen. TW is apparently responsible for appointing Benson to positions of responsibility way beyond his level of competance- on his watch Beson has overseen more or less the wholesale 'dismantling' of a sizeable number of backroom staff, some who had been in position for decades, people who had OUFC in thier DNA, who sadly are no longer at the club. His treatment of others aligned to the club has been despicable, TW had given Benson it seems a carte blanche to do exactly as he pleases. IMO TW, Ed Waldron and Adam Benson number among said bods who need to be changed, as in replaced.

What is quite clear is that someone behind the scenes at OUFC is clearly committed to OUFC not getting relegated. I'm not sure if that's Erick, Grant or someone else, or whether their motivation is for us to continue to push on or for their asset to not lose value, but we definitely don't muck about at this point of the season if it's not going to plan.

It worked last year. But the big question which I can't really answer and don't really have to desire to try and work out is whether it's really the managers fault or more a case of bad decisions behind the scenes to find ourselves in the exact same position again.

Of course it matters. You seriously think that the coach makes no difference?
Whoever the coach is will have a huge impact on the season ( like GR did last year)

God, I was so convinced this wouldn’t happen I’ve ignored my phone all day and come back to good news.

Sorry for Rowett, he got a short straw in the summer, but the way we’ve gone about things this season had to stop several games ago. So I’m glad to see Thohir, again, is not prepared to continue this amble towards relegation.

Not a clue who I want, but you could make a case for many of those in the poll. I voted for Carrick but in truth, I think the mere fact Rowett has gone will give the players some relief. The right call here could save us - it gives us a chance we didn’t have.

This is all about getting the right personality for the challenge and tactics second. Delighted to see there’s enough fight in us to recognise this had reached its conclusion and move on.

I really don't want Manning. I didn't particularly enjoy his football. It was pretty risky averse even though there was talent in the squad. And we need someone to pick morale up and he's got the charisma of a soiled nappy.
