Haha oh I know! I was wearing aquascutum and henry Lloyd 20 years ago to games. I was denigrating their low grade, Gloucester green market place vibe. And to your point…how the hell has casual sub culture stayed so static for 25-30 years ???? 🤣
Closer to 35-40 years I would say ...was wearing Burberry very early 90's !!!!

Football is a very odd world. Rowett's message today was utter class but I'd not be at all surprised if GR and senior club executives have been discussing his exit for a while.

If that's possible, it would play into the idea the club are quite far down the appointment line.

My money is on Tony Mowbray.

Staying up is the target to aim for, warnock for me then revisit everything in the summer, you know what you would be getting

I don’t think we are about to recruit better than Rowett.
It’s not always about that, though. Sometimes for whatever reason the messaging isn’t getting through any more, it’s not working, even a good coach can’t pick the players up again, shake them up. That’s where a new manager comes in and simply offers something new, a change, a breath of fresh air, a different voice and different perspective. We’ve seen time and time again that can work.

Is Rowett a ‘better’ coach than Des? I’m not so sure. But it worked replacing one with the other. I’m hopeful that this replacement might also work, even if they’re not ‘better’ than GR, as such.

More of a sideshow nowadays with Warnock. He didn’t take the Aberdeen job particularly seriously and was out of there within a few months. Said he wanted to manage in SPL but I think he was ticking a career box and once he’d had a few games he’d achieved his aim. If it was for a fortnight to keep the camp buoyant maybe but we’ve got a half a season to go and he’d get found out big time in my opinion.

Personally I would prefer a younger more ambitious coach like Carrick, McCarthy or Terry who would hopefully focus on us attacking and scoring as we need to win some games soon! Realistically we not offering the money or financial backing to tempt one of those so we’re looking for someone who has managed at this level before who would be open to moving to Oxfordshire. Mowbray would be top of the list there as Sunderland fans I know hate Beale.

Not sure any of the 3 you prefer woukd want this job - its a poisoned chalice particularly given the apparent shenanigans going on above the team coach role

Will people stop going on about John fkin Terry! You're probably the same people who would be happy to take sponsorship money from a betting company. I'd like to think that, as a club, we're better than that
Suggest you take a closer look at some of our pitch side advertising.

We might have getting into semantics, or gross subjectivity, but when I try to objectively look at our squad when our best players have only really played at league one or been sharply offloaded by championship teams. Vaulks is the exception . I think we have a decent enough budget, and I expect more from us as a club, but my eyes are firmly on Waldron.

I have ambition. I’ve called for manager heads in the past so I wouldn’t classify myself as head in the sand. I was earlier in terms of suggesting Des should go than many. But I don’t think we are about to recruit better than Rowett. I’m sure we both hope I’m very wrong!

See my response above, we may just have a different outlook on the quality we’ve accumulated. I think we did exceptionally surviving last year by treating it as 46 cup finals and scoring some worldies. But you can’t do that forever . It’s mentally exhausting for players and that’s what we are feeling this season . I think Nelson has also been a massive miss too
Aye but the only 'Championship level' signing in Vaulks (who left Sheff Weds as their player of the year) I would argue is proving this season that he isn't really up to that standard even in a side suited to his strengths - a battling approach based around hard work, long throws and direct passing.

So signing 'Championship quality' is a bit of a misnomer, given it's about signing players who work well together and creating a team who can play to a high collective level. With the budget we've been working from we can't afford to sign players completely proven at this level unless they have serious baggage (see Dembele). So we need to be astute, sign hungry players coming up the leagues, utilise the foreign market and make strong loan signings.

Just seems Rowett didn't make the best of the constraints he was working in. Even if the recruitment was wrong, he didn't maximise what he had. But you're right, we may get someone else more expansive or better suited to gelling the players who ends up with a lower points total than 19 from 22 games. Is a risk I'm happy for us to take.

A world without subjectivity would be bloody dull, wouldn’t it.

My subjective view is that our four outfield players with the most talent/potential were all signed from abroad.
And we haven’t seen anywhere near the best from any of them yet.

Why should they if they think he’d be right for the job ? Lampard doing well at Coventry, why shouldn’t a top player from a similar era and similar background do equally as well ? Derby gave Lampard an opportunity, why shouldn’t we give Terry the same ? I bet you’re the sort of person that worshipped good old wife beater Gazza or saw no wrong in Lampard abusing passengers at Heathrow on the day of 9/11. Terry did too but why hold grudges against certain players and not others. Loads of less than angelic characters have succeeded in management. Move on for god sake!!!

I’d love to see Terry in charge here, he’d be brilliant I think. And yes 100% I’d take the money from a betting company. People have to take accountability for their actions, the whole bloody world cannot keep providing a protective blanket around every single possible outcome.

Hearing a rumour from a mate who supports that lot down the A420 that Ian Holloway is being strongly considered. Evidently they are losing their best player in January to Wimbledon and he is well pissed off and wants out.
Make of this what you like, but my mate is well connected in 6 finger parts.

With the greatest of respect, that's absolute f*****g tosh.

He’s very authentic - straightforward, honest and humble. If I was a player I would warm to him a lot.
Yes he came across very well. Sounded genuine and seemed to actually be invested.

Everyone is entitled to their views but f**k me John Terry is a chav, an Imbecile and he,s well John Terry.

All I ask of Craig short is to pick HIS team and play HIS tactics not Gary rowett
*Edit because I can't count after a few mulled wines :D

Cumming
Long
Brown
Helik
Currie
Vaulks
BDK
Mills
Placheta
Goodrham
Lankshear/M Harris

That would be my guess of what Short puts out assuming they're fit. 4-2-3-1 with Goodrham in the middle.

Potentially with Spencer coming in for Long or as a bit of a wildcard, Helik.
