I really hope it’s not Bloomfield and another rumour getting out of hand. I’m close friends with a Luton fan and we both spent most of the last year mocking their Bloomfield appointment. He was totally out of his depth and, in my friends opinion, only got the results he did because of the expensive team Edwards left him. I’ll be concerned if we appoint him and, if so, very happy for him to prove me wrong.

What's Edwards excuse for under performing last season with that expensive team then?

Bloomfield had a better record with that crop than Edwards did by the way.

If, as expected, it is Bloomfield you have to wonder why it’s taken so long.

Good appointment (so so much better than Sheehan).

I really don't like how jilted football managers who don't get a job, have to go running to the press via agents, to declare they've withdrawn. Take it on the chin, he didn't get the job because someone didn't want to give it him.

Bloomfield at Luton (that first five months) did exceptionally well, despite a very very slow and disappointing start. He had some good players and he nearly did a miracle in keeping them up, with a great set of results and PPG during that late FEB-MAY period. I know he is super keen and was desperate to be our manager, so that fills me with confidence too. He doesn't jump about, he tends to stick at clubs and he has a good relationship with our recruitment team.

I really do hope he brings in his assistant to replace Mark Sale. Any other additions would surely see some moving off coaching chairs.

I am betting on us staying up. Well done Erick for making the decision and not offering it to Sheehan or some of the other 'candidates'.

It could conceivably be due to protrscted discussions about how many of his previous support staff he’d wish to bring with him, which might affect the future of some people currently at the club.

Appleton hadn't really done anything before he joined us, Manning had just about got MK relegated, Des had never managed in this country. I'm sure there were plenty of people moaning about each of the appointments.
I’ve always been a big believer that records are to be taken with a bit of a pinch of salt because as we know better than most, what goes on above and around them has a massive impact. You can’t always replicate what made them successful elsewhere or copy and paste the players, while you can provide better conditions than somewhere else they might’ve failed.

Alignment is far more important and I take comfort from him knowing Mitchell so well. Bloomfield knows he will provide good players, just as Mitchell knows what he needs to bring in for him.

So long as that’s in place and he can bring in his staff(!!), the board don’t do anything further to derail the season, we are likely to see the best of Bloomfield’s record than the worst. His best keeps us up.

I’d be lying if I said I was 100% sold and don’t at all like that it’s taken 3 weeks to get him in. But it looks like a good fit both ways.

He will surely be as motivated as anyone could possibly be, as he needs to make a success of this job and stay for a decent amount of time. That determination and desire counts for a lot.

Fairly clear he wasn’t first choice and we’ve explored other options, hence the delay.

Regardless - happy with the appointment. Lets get behind him!

Last season they had Rowett on the blower before they sacked Des that's why it was a quick appointment. This time around they wanted someone who not only would give us the best possibility of staying up but also someone who would try and correct the wrongs if we went down and be willing to try and achieve promotion out of league one.

Quite a few not only wanted release causes that they could walk away if we were relegated but increased wage next season if we stay up drawn in. I understand certain managers have egos but a couple of them have very little or no experience of managing in the EFL.

At the end of the day 2 teams from 23 will go down this season ( Wednesday already down) we could go down even if we spunked £10 million on players and had Arteta in charge. It's football at the end of the day anything can happen.

Matt Bloomfield has my full backing even if we do end up going down.

I mean, he hadn't achieved much, but he had managed three Championship teams, and was pretty famous as the guy who had walked out of the Blackpool job after 65 days to join their rivals Blackburn.

Fairly high profile for a L2 club at the time I'd say.

Whereas Bloomfield seems fairly low-profile for a Championship club. I didn't realise he wasn't still playing in midfield for Wycombe in the lower leagues tbh! Not that this is a bad thing - I have no opinion whether he is likely to be good for Us or not.

Not only had Appleton not achieved much with those clubs he had managed to p**s two of them off quite badly though, he had a good reputation as a coach but his name as a manager was pretty much dirt, which was why we were able to get him.

Whoever we get will have question marks, Jim Smith would have back in the day, but you have to roll the dice eventually rather than waiting for Mr Perfect. Brigitte Jones’s diaries taught us that if anything.
