Good article from the FSA about how the laws in the upcoming police bill could affect football supporters as well as protestors that are annoying...could football fans gathering outside a pub on matchday potentially be criminalised if they are seen to be a nuisance?

Just shows how dangerous this Bill is and if it passes you can pretty much guarantee it will be used by the Police against football fans as suggested in the article.

Just waiting for EY to defend the Govt saying if you aren't doing anything wrong etc.... ;)

I would struggle to see how anyone could defend this Bill as it stands. The FSA have done us all a favour in highlighting this. It is indeed very worrying to think that as we, as supporters walking to or from an away game, could be deemed to be a "nuisance" or a cause of "annoyance" to other members of the public (or, presumably, to a member of the police) and, as such, be deemed to be committing a criminal act! Think of Luton, we all exit the ground and are corralled in that street by the plod already suited up for WW3, Upon voicing our wish to depart we are deemed by said plod to be annoying them. Hey presto, any number of us are carted away, charged, convicted and given a criminal record.

This Bill must, must be stopped and re-written by someone with a couple more brain cells than whichever prat wrote this version.

It is pretty bad that the government are trying to push this through at a time when people can't really go out and protest against it. When they do, it's all 'look at these idiots breaking lockdown' in the press.

The trouble is, a fair number of those out protesting are, simply put, idiots.
Hopefully, with the help of bodies such as the FSA, common sense will prevail. It is concerning that this bill has got as far as it as with the wording as quoted.
I would hope that the legal chasms in the text cause the legal community to wake up and denounce the absurdity of being able to make a criminal out of anybody who is deemed to be a "nuisance".

Guildford Beat (Surrey Police)

On Tuesday, 19 July, we were made aware of an unauthorised encampment at Stoke Park in Guildford. We have worked closely to support the landowners, Guildford Borough Council, and the site has now been vacated (21 July).
Guildford Borough Commander Alick James said: “This weekend, Stoke Park is hosting the Cancer Research UK Run for Life where over 1200 participants are expected to attend, along with additional supporters. The occupants of the unauthorised encampment have now left the area after being served notice under the new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and the event will go ahead as planned.
“The act also prohibits the encampment from returning within 12 months.”
These powers can only be used where there is or there is likely to be significant disruption. An offence is only committed if people do not leave when requested or they return within the specified period.
