Championship Plymouth Sack Rooney

That’s a shame. Would liked to have seen him stay till at least mid January at the earliest.

I find it weird how someone who is one of the best players I've seen play for England is so disliked. He wore his heart on his sleeve when playing for England and I think comes across as a pretty decent bloke in interviews.

He's also been pretty unlucky with the injuries at Plymouth. They've been without some of their main players for the majority of the season.

He also clearly doesn't need the money and I'd be inclined to think the 'mutual termination' is him giving up a chunk of the compensation to leave the role.

Saying that, Plymouth were awful on Sunday and I'm really not surprised they've got rid. They'll be a different side when we play them in a couple of weeks

I'm not sure it's so much a dislike of Rooney as an individual, as a feeling that famous players such as him, Lampard and Gerrard get managerial opportunities that they'd never get if they were lesser known players.
Exactly. Personally I think it's more the fault of club chairmen that these ex-players get this sort of job though. More publicity, the hope they can attract better players and a few extra on the gate (at least for a while!). Not sure you can blame the ex-players for wanting to stay in the game. It rarely works for any length of time however, and is an obstacle to promotion from the lower leagues for genuinely talented up and coming managers.

We generally don't like people doing well in this country and are bigger fans of the under dogs for whatever reason.

There is the argument that people like Rooney, Lampard etc. get opportunities over others due to their name which is true but, that is the same in all walks of life. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Not so. Hammered them 5-0 at the Manor in the eighties. A solitary away fan ran the length of the pitch to "take on" the London Road. Immediately ejected and missed the whole match. Laughable. They were on a good Cup Run at the time.
83/84. To be fair we were making everyone look useless back then, even Arsenal and Man United 😁

Rooney was an absolute sensation as a footballer. I actually thought he was the best in the world in his late teens early 20,s. It’s not until you see footage and listen to other pros that you realise how influential he was. World class.

On to management, I very much doubt he has a clear plan in his head that is suitable for a Plymouth or Oxford situation in the second tier, and to me it sounds as if he can’t articulate that anyhow. Maybe elite footballers would understand but it’s doubtful.
And imagine from a players point of view…football and society is unrecognisable from when Rooney and co were at the top of their game. Rooney was from a very rough council estate and was able to physically dominate renown internationals when he was 18 and then there is the SAF factor. His simple expectations are probably out of line with the abilities of the majority of prem footballers let alone Plymouth Argyle.

Lampard has often been criticised for his failing especially at Everton and Chelsea.
He did ok at Derby and Coventry a similar sized club I reckon will suit him. I reckon they’ll be challenging this time next year
